FAQs and Details About Blackstone Griddles + Covers
Seasoning creates a non-stick surface. To season your new griddle, wash the cooktop with soapy water and dry it. Then, turn the heat to high. When it’s hot, apply a thin layer of a high-smoke-point oil like canola or flaxseed oil. Let it burn off until the smoke stops, which takes about 15-20 minutes. Repeat this process 3-5 times until the surface is dark and shiny.
For safety, it's not recommended to use a propane appliance in heavy rain or snow. The burners could go out, creating a gas leak risk. Light moisture is generally okay, but always be cautious. The electronic igniter may also fail to work if wet. It's best to cook in a dry, well-ventilated area.
The best time to clean your griddle is right after you are done cooking, while it is still warm. Use a metal scraper to push any food debris into the grease trap. Then, pour some water on the warm surface and scrub with the scraper to steam-clean it. Wipe it dry with a paper towel and apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to protect the surface until its next use.
One of the first decisions you'll make is what size griddle to get. Blackstone measures its griddles by width, and the size you need depends on how many people you typically cook for and what you plan to make.

Beyond just size, you need to decide on the style of your griddle. This choice comes down to portability and where you plan on doing most of your cooking.
Freestanding Griddles: These are classic models that resemble a traditional barbecue grill. They come with a sturdy cart, side shelves for prep space, and wheels for easy movement around your patio. They are the best choice for a primary backyard cooking station.
Blackstone Tabletop Griddles: These models are just the griddle top and burners. They are designed to be placed on a sturdy, heat-safe surface like a picnic table or tailgate. They are the most portable option, making them perfect for camping and tailgating.
