Great Cooler at a Great Price!I really like this cooler. Seems well thought out and well made. Kept Ice for over 6-days in the back of my truck in high 80's temps. No complaints. I can't imagine spending twice as much on a similar cooler. This one also comes with the cutting board/divider and basket which make it an exceptional value. I would and do highly recommend it.

No better than an inexpensive ice chestBought this for the supposed "10 day" ice retention which did not happen. You must have either access to dry ice or an empty chest freezer to chill the cooler before using. Without pre-cooling it is no better than an inexpensive ice chest and ice melts within 2 - 3. Taking it back to Academy for a refund.

Cool cooler!!!What can I say! WOW!!!! I use the cooler for a week at a time in order to pre prep my meals for healthier eating and cost savings! It works great for this at half the cost of other coolers! Over a 9 day time period I purchased dry ice twice for my cooler and it kept my food frozen for entire trip without having to have the mess of water and ice! I opened cooler 2 to 3 times each day! Glad I purchased this cooler!

Amazing! Kept ice all week!My husband and I purchased this in preparation of our week long relocation trip from Louisiana to Washington state. We filled it up with our deep freeze contents and topped it all off with Sonic-style ice. We drove through eleven states in five days, traveling 2,380 miles through an intense heat wave. That tiny ice stayed frozen in the Magellan from start to finish! Excellent quality! Even better value!

Nice Ice Chest Except for Shallow Dent in LidPros - Cheaper price, comes with accessories, works as advertised, shipping was fast.
Cons - Lid came with a shallow dent on top, didn't notice until after it was used, not worth returning it. The textured outside surface is harder to clean than a Yeti which has a smooth outer surface.

Good cooler for the priceI bought this cooler for a 3 day trip to the coast. Up until this point, I had always used Igloos or similar brands because they are relatively cheap, but I was quickly getting tired of having to put ice in it twice a day to keep it cool. I thought about Yeti (too expensive) and was going to buy an RTIC, but they were backordered for 3 months. So, I did some online searching for a roto-molded, more reasonably priced cooler, and I found this. It works much better that the standard Igloo-type cooler. It is very sturdy and well-made. It has a large drain with a stopper on a chain, and a sloped channel in the bottom to the drain. It kept ice pretty well, considering 6 people were in & out of it all day. I added a ten pound bag of ice every evening, but I think less would have worked. Keep in mind we were in 95 degree heat in constant sunlight with frequent opening. I've never owned a Yeti (probably never will) but I doubt it would perform much better in those circumstances. I think this is a perfect "in-between" cooler between the cheapies and the Yetis.
If i order this item online and shipped to my house will it come inside a box or just the bare cooler?

HOW MUCH DRY ICE DO I USE TO PRECHILL AND DO I PUT IT IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE COOLER. ALSO DO I CLSE IT UP TIGHT
Asked by: DCHAM
The Magellan Outdoors™ Ice Box 75 includes an owner's manual that describes the importance of pre-chilling the cooler. I have provided this information below for you reference.
1.) Importance of Pre-Chilling: Think of your cooler as a temperature maintainer. Now that you think about it in this way, you can understand why it is so important to bring the internal temperature of the cooler down before adding ice. This process is referred to as pre-chilling and is essential for the proper operation of your Magellan outdoors Ice Box Cooler. We recommend placing dry ice in the cooler for at least 1 hour. Always use proper safety precautions when handling dry ice including the use of gloves. If dry ice is not available place the cooler in a chest freezer overnight. Another option is to fill up the cooler with ice and leave overnight. Discard and refill with fresh ice when ready to use.
2.) If possible, chill or freeze any goods before placing them in the cooler. The ice will last much longer.
3.) Water from melted ice is not a bad thing! Cold water that develops after a few days helps insulate the remaining ice better than empty airspace.
4.) Open your lid as few times as possible to reduce adding warm air from the outside.
5.) Ice performance can vary greatly. Block ice will melt slower than cube ice, but cube ice with a larger total surface area will cool items faster. You may want to consider a mixture of both types. Start with very cold, sold ice versus wet ice that has already begun to melt.
6.) Fill cooler with as much ice as possible to reduce empty air areas.
7.) Your cooler is dry ice approved. Dry ice (C02), made from carbon dioxide, is an excellent way to achieve super cold temperatures, without any water residue. Always handle dry ice with caution and wear protective gloves, as it can quickly freeze burn skin (-109F). Allow for adequate ventilation of any C02 gas. It may be helpful to add some dry ice to your ice mixture to keep it colder longer.
8.) Rock salt trick ... rock salt naturally lowers the melting point of water, making it super cold. Add a few handfuls to the top of your ice filled cooler and temperatures will be even lower.
