AcademySports + Outdoors equips enthusiasts with griddles that prioritize precision and endurance. Our curated lineup features leading brands and a wide range of sizes to match your exact performance demands. Choose us for reliable gear that elevates every cookout, backed by expert selection and variety you trust.
Selecting the right outdoor griddle starts with features that align with your needs. Focus on heat output, measured in BTUs, to ensure quick recovery times for searing meats or cooking eggs evenly. A quality griddle offers adjustable controls for precise temperature zones. This lets you handle delicate foods on one side while high-heat cooking on the other. Durability matters too—opt for rust-resistant frames and thick cooktops that hold up in outdoor conditions.
Construction quality sets premium models apart. Look for wind guards around burners to maintain consistent flames during breezy sessions. Easy assembly and stable legs prevent wobbles during use. These elements ensure your investment lasts through seasons of heavy cooking. Always check user reviews for real-world performance data.
Heat Output and Controls: Aim for 50,000+ BTUs with independent burners for versatile cooking zones.
Cooktop Thickness: At least 0.5 inches of cold-rolled steel for even heat and longevity.
Frame and Mobility: Powder-coated steel with locking casters for stability and easy repositioning.
Additional Perks: Built-in igniters and side hooks keep your setup efficient.
Figuring out how to choose the right size griddle ensures efficient meals without overcrowding. Measure by cooking area in square inches or width in inches—think about your average party size first. For solo or couple cooks, 200-400 square inches suffices for quick breakfasts. Larger groups need 500+ inches to juggle proteins, veggies, and sides simultaneously. Factor in menu variety; diverse dishes demand more zone flexibility.
Test sizes against your space constraints next. A 22-inch model works for small patios, while 36-inch options fit bigger gatherings. Simulate your routine: can it handle 10 burgers at once? This approach avoids under- or over-buying. Consult dimension charts for exact fits.
Compact (17-24 inches): Suits 1-3 people; perfect for tailgating or solo enthusiasts with space limits.
Standard (28-36 inches): Balances versatility for 4-8 servings; handles family dinners or casual hosts.
Expansive (40+ inches): For 8+ people or pros; enables multi-course meals with room to spare.

Essential accessories turn a basic griddle into a pro setup. Start with durable tools like stainless steel spatulas and scrapers—they resist heat and won't scratch the surface. A cover shields from the weather, preventing seasoning breakdown. These items boost efficiency from day one. Pair them with cleaning kits for post-cook routines that keep flavors pure.
Beyond basics, specialized tools refine techniques. Domes create steam pockets for veggies, while presses flatten burgers for crispy edges. Oil dispensers control fats precisely, avoiding flare-ups. Invest wisely to match your style. Quality accessories pay off in easier use and better results.
Tool Set: Include two spatulas (one beveled) and a rigid scraper for daily scraping.
Protective Cover: Custom-fit, waterproof versions guard against UV damage and debris.
Basting Tools: Squeeze bottles for oils and a dome for even melting or steaming.
Cleaning Aids: Pumice stones or grill bricks remove stuck-on residue without harsh chemicals.
Grease Cup Liners: Tool hooks or bags organize gear for quick access.
Seasoning builds a non-stick layer that improves over time. Heat the clean surface to 350°F, apply thin oil layers, and repeat until it smokes less. This process protects against rust and enhances flavor. Do it outdoors to manage fumes. Initial seasoning takes about an hour but sets up long-term success.
Maintenance keeps your griddle performing. Scrape after each use while warm, then wipe with a towel—no soap needed. Store dry and covered. Check for wear annually. These habits extend life and ensure safe cooking. Track your routine for best outcomes.
Seasoning Steps: Oil, heat, cool; repeat 3-4 times for a strong base layer.
Daily Clean: Scrape, oil lightly, and avoid water until fully cooled.
Storage: Elevate for airflow; inspect burners for clogs seasonally.
