POOR, cheap and not worth it..I bought this, used it a few times and was not satisfied. Not able to get a consistent temp. Too much leakage of smoke. I returned it and got a Oklahoma Joe Highland smoker for same price... Way better than this tin can..

Great SmokerReading all the bad reviews just shows me people do not know how to use it. Plan is to mod it some to allow the smoke to evenly surround the food. Google it. I have an older version of this smoker using it over 10 years and the only reason im buying this new one is because im hooking my neighbor up with my old one. Great smoker and grill for the price and as long as you take care of it, will last for many years.

Good results; High MaintenanceHad this smoker about 4 months. I have smoked rib (beef and pork) and have grilled steaks and chicken. I've gotten good results each time, so it does the job. Also the wheels are nice and it is easy to move around, but there are a few drawbacks. First, the relatively light gauge metal seems to warp a bit from the heat. Consequently, the lid is now a bit skewed and does not seal well. This lets out a lot of smoke and heat. Most frustrating is It is difficult to get the old ashes out. Due to the lip at the bottom of the fire box where the door is, you can't push the ashes out and there is no door on the opposite end of the smoke/grilling chamber. Based on my experience with several offset type smokers and the rust already developing, I fear it is going to rust through sooner than I think it should. Finally, the air control damper at the fire box tends to weld itself stuck. Every time I use it, I have to take a screwdriver and pry the damper away from the end of the firebox to get it unstuck. After the fire use, I had to remove the nut that holds the damper to the firebox and really work at freeing up the damper. I'm not sure, but it seems as if the black paint/coating softens with heat and then hardens as it cools causing the damper and firebox end to "weld" together. Of the several previous smokers I've owned, these issues never occurred, so I wasn't really paying attention to all these details when I purchased this unit. I will definitely be more mindful next time. On last thing, the wire gauge of the coal racks should be heavier. These are already starting to sag.

Great backyard smoker for the price.I bought this smoker back in May of this year during a Memorial Day sale and I couldn't be happier. The assembly was easy to do despite me doing it alone. It holds it tempature perfectly and the results I've gotten from it have far suspassed my expectations. Don't let the low reviews fool you this is a great unit in this price point.

Do not buyI bought this a couple months back and the overall assembly is easy but the quality is poor. I couldn't smoke in it cause the smoke bellows out of EVERYWHERE! The wheels are study but the grates are already rusting. I do not recommend.

Great smoker for the moneyThis was a great price (price reduction for the 4th of July). I ordered it as a surprise gift for my husband to replace his old New Braunfels Hondo Smoker that he has used for twenty plus years. The old one still works, but the outside is quite worn and as much as he smokes brisket, ribs, etc., he deserved a new one.

Great backyard smokerRecently purchased & was concerned with some of the low reviews but it is great! Have owned other smokers & this one, for the money was a great buy & good smoker. This is not a competition smoker & for someone looking for that - it will cost you a lot more than this. Rating in context of price vs. function...5 stars

I just purchased this smoker from Academy Sports.........the grates are cast iron and I think are ready for use.........is there any thing else I should do for curing? Or is that even needed?
Asked by: maybs
I've always run a hot fire in any grill/smoker before cooking with food to burn off any chemicals or grease left over from manufacturing. Many people also spray theirs down with Pam on their first cook to help with seasoning. If a hot fire peels your paint you can get a high-temp BBQ spray paint from Rust-Oleum to help keep it from rusting.
