The Minn Kota® Riptide 70 Saltwater Bow-Mount Trolling Motor is designed with large windings and commutators that dissipate heat for cool operation, extended battery power and long motor life. The motor features a 52" composite shaft that is stronger than stainless steel and resists breaking, kinking and corrosion. The electrical connections are sealed with liquid-tight, heat-shrink tubing to keep out saltwater, and the premium-grade marine alloys and aluminum upper arms are finished with 5-mil TGIC polyester, powder-coat paint for corrosion protection.

Do you think 70 lbs is enough for a older 21ft cape horn to be used in mobile bay ala
Asked by: cape
The Minn Kota® Riptide 70 Saltwater Bow-Mount Trolling Motor is recommended for boats up to 23'.
In order to be sure you are purchasing a trolling motor with enough thrust, you will want to consider:
1.) Boat weight (most important factor)
2.) Boat length
3.) Your typical fishing conditions
A good rule of thumb is that you want a minimum of 2 lbs. of thrust for every 100lbs. of boat weight. When figuring boat weight, make sure you calculate the heaviest potential weight which includes a boat fully loaded with gear, fuel, and the maximum number of passengers.
Example: A boat measuring 14'-16' with a maximum weight of 2,000 lbs. will need a minimum thrust of 40 lbs. A 17' boat with a maximum weight of 2,500 lbs. will need a minimum thrust of 50 lbs.
