This item is terribleIts very poorly made had to force in most of the screws dont even bother using the tools provided... so i finally get it set after 3-4 hours and the rack can barley fit my tarpon 100 or my native the dumb hooks to set your paddle in are the worse you have put your yak in at an angle so unless you have someone else help you with it its a bear and a half not to mention the bolts that come out of the other side for the hooks dig into your kayak so after a while of sitting on them would surely dent your yak give this -3 stars if i could now i have to talk my gf into returning this item

Overall: Nice Kayak RackI have really enjoyed my new kayak rack. It looks great and serves its purpose well. The reason I gave this item a 4 star review is it did not come with instructions. I contacted Academy the day it arrived and they stated they would look into it. The next day I put it together and used every item provided just going off the picture on the box. About 2-3 weeks later Academy contacted me and said they found the instructions on a PDF form. I still never received the instructions, but thankfully I'm good with tools. This is still a great kayak rack.

Great value for the moneyI bought this to store two 13ft Vibe Sea Ghost kayaks and one 10ft kayak. It took about 2.5 hours to complete. The strap instructions can be a little confusing, but once you get them right it's ok.

Might keep shoppingI bought this item and was very disappointed. Poorly made. Not very sturdy. Very unstable, however you cannot really torque down the bolts as the metal begins to bend inwards. I chose to keep it only because the box arrived in miserable shape and it would have taken too much effort to disassemble.

Functional, but materials could be higher qualityEasy to follow instructions. Build took less than an hour. Excellent storage option overall.
Only complaint is one of the plastic clips used to hold the kayaks in the straps broke the first time I went to tighten it down. I did not use excess force simply pulled until the straps were taught. The other five clips functioned fine. Considering the straps are there to restrain boats that may weight in excess of 50 lbs, I would have liked to see more effort placed on providing quality materials that can handle the load.
I want to use this outdoors and hold the kayaks upside down to keep out rain water. Will this rack support the kayaks in the downward facing direction?
Asked by: mike
The kayaks can be placed in the arms upside down on the Magellan Outdoors 3-Tier Kayak Rack to prevent from filling up with water.

2 questions... (1) Can you take off the middle set of arms to get a wider kayak or canoe in there? I want to put an aluminum canoe on the bottom. (2) with that done, what's the widest kayak you can put in there. Not stocked locally.

The instructions for threading the straps are confusing. Is the webbing completely flat when done or is there a twist in it somewhere? A short video on how this is done would be extremely helpful.
