Disappointed: Nikon's standards slideI returned these binoculars immediately, and here's why:
For years I owned a pair of Nikon Action 10x15 porro prism binoculars, and have never found a better pair for the money. So, after years of wanting to upgrade the zoom level of my binoculars, I figured I'd buy the Nikon Aculon A211 10-22x50. I figured that since it had a ten-power zoom, it would replace my Action binoculars altogether, and give me a super high powered zoom to play with. I was terribly disappointed.
In ten-power, the Aculon A211's had such a narrow field of view that it was very much like looking through straws. My Action binoculars had a field of view of 341 at 1000 yards (which is a huge field of view). Naturally, I thought that the Aculon binoculars would outperform the Action binoculars in ten-power - WRONG. The Aculon A211's have a field of view of roughly 199 feet at 1000 yards.
Not even the 22-power zoom of the Aculon binoculars made this a worthwhile purchase. I returned these binoculars immediately.

A serious disappointmentThis particular pair of Nikon Aculon A211 10-22x50 binoculars was a serious letdown. After owning other Nikon products (including two cameras and a pair of Action binoculars), all of which impressed me greatly, I was in disbelief by how poor these binoculars turned out to be.
The field of view was horribly poor on 10-power, which begs the question why have such a variable to begin with? On 10 power, it's like looking through straws. Sure, the clarity is great, but the size of the image is horribly small.
I was far more impressed by my Nikon Action 10x50 binoculars. The field of view is nearly double, and the cost was nearly half. Having a 22-power zoom on the Aculon didn't at all make up for the diminished field of view.
I will most certainly be returning this product.

Great valueGreat value because these binoculars have a very crisp focus at all ranges. You have the common 10 power lenses for overall viewing, but then you can really zoom in close with up to 22 power to get fine details. I had tried these binoculars at a competitor's store and liked that example, however the product I received has a very "jerky" control for the zoom (not a smooth action like the one I examined earlier). Hopefully this one will loosen up as it is used more.

Can you actually turn it up from 10 power to 22 power ?
Asked by: jsgirl
The Nikon ACULON A211 10 - 22 x 50 Porro Prism Binoculars can adjust from 10 to 22 power. The first two numbers, 10 and 22, mean the zoom portion is capable of viewing, at minimum, 10 times (X) and can be adjusted up to 22 X power. That means that without zooming, any object will look 10 times closer to you than it really is and the zoom can be adjusted up to look 22 times closer.
The last number, 50, is the size of the objective lens (measured in millimeters) going across the lens. The size of the objective lens will determine how much light it can obtain for effective viewing. The higher the number, the more light can pass through which projects a brighter image.
