Problems. After 3 months of fishing pretty hard, in a tournament that your only allowed 2 rods, my symetry started sticking than froze up. I called shimano only to find out its a constant problem. They need a special grease called DG-13..I had to send it back on my dime and wait 10 days to get it back..the stradic fk is a little more but well worth the $$..

DisappointedAt first, about 2 months, the reel was smooth and I caught some large redfish. the drag was perfect and consistent. Then I started feeling resistance at the top and bottom of the spool oscillation. I put a drop of oil into the crank bearings and it worked fine for an hour, then started the same sticky operation. I could actually feel the gear teeth meshing, the reel was unusable. I started research online and found the consensus was the problem was the friction ring. I haven't gone any further with the reel, waiting for it to fix itself. Evidently this issue comes up in multiple models of Shimano reels. I will tear it down and eyeball the friction ring, damage should be visible if it is causing the problem. Ocuma makes a $40 reel that gives better service than this Symetre, model 3000-FL.

what does convertible refer to in the description
Asked by: rickyv55
The word “convertible” on a spinning reel means that the handle on the spinning reel can be converted from the left side to the right side (and vice versa), so that it can be used by both left handed and right handed fishermen, without any extra parts needed. Use in saltwater or freshwater can vary by reel and would be determined based on the reel as each reel would be categorized by the type of water it is meant for use in.
