Serious PerformanceI picked these up at my local Academy Sports about two years ago and they're still my favorite pair of hiking socks.
I'm the organizer of an outdoor adventure club that has about 500 members, and we do a lot of off-trail hiking over brutal desert mountain terrain that wears through gear twice as fast as other places.
I use a thin sock liner, these heavy Smart Wool socks, and a pair of La Sportiva Nepal Evos. I'm usually the only person who isn't complaining about soar feet at the end of the day. Hiking ridgelines on soar feet takes the fun out of it... these socks are a critical part of my equation for taking this problem off the list.

Very impressed Texas hunterThe first thing any experienced hunter/hiker learns is about keeping warm is staying dry, layering, and staying away from cotton. I bought these socks, one's close to them, 66% wool 33% nylon, NO cotton, expecting a cold days hike to the stand (under 30°, cold for Texas), yet it didn't get below 60. Go figure, typical Texas weather. No sweat, super comfortable, can only imagine how well they'll perform when it's really cold. Hike 2 miles then sit stationary for 3 hours. You'll never know the difference with cotton sox until you stop. Once your feet are wet with sweat because your soxs are soaked, even insulated boots won't stop your toes from going numb. These seem expensive at first but I'm going back for more. I'm sensitive to wool, makes me itchy. These don't. Soft and comfortable enough to use as house slippers LOL. As an old man who gets foot cramps when my feet get cold.... no more cramps. I'm 110% a fan. From 1 - 5 rating I give these a 10!
