Good, Except!I have been a satisfied Hi-Tec hiking boot customer for over 40 years. On this pair I notice that the laces do not slide easily through the metal triangles on the sides of the boot. This makes it difficult to tighten when lacing and even more difficult to loosen when taking them off. I think the lace gets "bound/pinched" in the angle of the triangle. I would suggest you change that triangle shape to a D-ring shape with circular side of the D facing the middle of the tongue. This would allow the lace to move freely. It should also extend the life of the lace by not "pinching" it at one stress point. And definitely order the widest one because they run a little narrow.

Hi-Tec = Low-TecFirst time to every buy Hi-Tec also the last time. Look at the photo and specifically at the lugs on the bottom soles. See the orange lugs. First time out on a trail do do light hiking these mids leaked water around them because the lugs were split away from the rest of the sole.
Purchased for light hiking duty and selling feature was that they were water proof. Total waist of $$$ purchased a pair of Magellan Elevation Mids for almost 1/2 the price sprayed them with Kamp Dri twice before using and they are twice the boot the Hi-Tec is.

Great hiking/walking bootI bought these boots for walking/hiking in wet winter conditions in Piedmont North Carolina. The fit is great, the price was outstanding, the shipping was flawless, and the waterproof aspect adds sheer joy to outdoor adventures.

Comfort? Yes. Waterproof? Not even a little.I've been wearing these boots pretty regularly for about two months. The comfort level is quite high; especially right out of the box, there was really no break in period. The materials seem strong, I've seen no wear to speak of. The laces are not good. Or at least they are not good for this boot. They shred where they contact the upper hook very quickly. My biggest complaint, and the reason I am on this web-site, is the waterproofing. I went hunting down an old road. This road was not overgrown and there was very little grass. It was raining. It took less than an hour for my feet to be COMPLETELY soaked. Now, I wasn't expecting to have dry feet after walking through a creek, or trudging through knee high grass all day, but I've had old tennis shoes with better waterproofing than this. Very disappointing.

Excellent Trail Boot!I received these boots as a gift around a year ago. Just got to use them this past Saturday for a 5.5 mile hike through the Three Lakes WMA in Florida (part of the Florida Trail). I thought they were very comfortable and I had no size difference issues that I have been reading about on the internet (same size as my pair of sneakers). I was able to wear padded hiking socks in comfort as well. I can't comment on the water proofing of these boots since I wasn't walking in ankle deep muck or water but I did walk in about two inches of water and there was a lot of dew on the grasses I was walking through, feet were as dry as when I put the boots on before the hike. I did get one small blister but that was due to just putting the boots on, hiking without any break-in time, carrying a twenty pound pack, plus I haven't hiked in around 15 years (much, much better than my old military issued jungle boots from when I hiked all the time, plagued with blisters). The boots look good and the construction seems well done also. Very impressed with these boots. I plan on getting another pair in the olive color and would like to see them offered in camouflage as well. Nicely made boot. I wear a regular size 7.5 boot and shoe. Thanks for making my feet, well, happy feet.
