Terrible ProductThis burner produces a lot of soot. I mean A LOT of soot. It will make the pot filthy and cleaning it is nasty and messy. The flame cannot be adjusted to burn cleanly...trust me it cannot be adjusted. I saw other reviews that said the same thing before I purchased. But, I bought anyway ... thought maybe they were incorrect. They are not. You will not like this product.

Absolute junkThe frame is made of scary thin metal. I could not get the flame adjusted to burn cleanly. It really dirtied the bottom of my pot.

Gives off black soot. This is really poorly designed product. Even though this is stainless steel, the burner gives off a lot of black soot. It does not burn very cleanly at all. There is an air adjustment but that doesn't work.

This would be a great value in a propane outdoor burner, if only it didn't blacken the bottom of cookware. I thought I was buying something nice, stainless steel construction, far from the cheapest patio burner available, but this honestly doesn't make the cut. No matter how far open or closed you set the air damper, the flames burn Smokey and yellow at ALL gas settings. I spent a couple hours fiddling with this thing to try to find it's right setting," but it simply doesn't exist. I wound up using it one time as I was cooking for a gumbo cook-off, but WHAT A MESS it made out of my cookware!

Great for HomebrewingBought this a couple of weeks ago when I decided to get back into homebrewing and was a little hesitant at first, but after cranking it up, it turned out to be perfect. 1) The main reason I was looking at this fryer was the shape / size of the top. I'm using a converted 15.5 sanke keg as a brew pot and the bottom of the kegs are not flat like a regular pot. Finding a fryer with a flat top that was the right width was a chore, but this one worked out great. 2) Stainless Steel was a definite plus. Every once in a while you'll get a boil-over if your not careful adding hops. The SS build makes cleaning a breeze. 3) The 58,000 btu's bring 5 gallons + up to boil QUICK. I haven't done a 10 gal. batch yet but from what I've seen, It'll be a piece-o-cake for this thing. 4) The regulator allows for great hi or low pressure use. I was able to accurately hold temp a 158* to steep grain for 50 min. 5) It doesn't guzzle propane like some other fryers. Even after a full boil for an hour plus the steep of almost another hour, my lpg bottle still feels almost completely full.

Excellent quality and valueThis burner is several steps above the painted steel version. After using several times, it comes clean by just using a kitchen style wet wipe or two. It never will get rusty and no matter how long sitting out in the weather, it will shine right back up with a quick wipe. The heating element works fine although there should be a larger air orifice to have better air mix when at altitude. I live above 2000 feet elevation and I had a bit too much yellow in my flame, causing soot to build up on the pot and the stand. Those wiped off the stainless steel pot and stand without any effort though. The regulator is of good quality as well as the whole gas assembly; hose, fittings, high/low knob. This stand sits flat and is stable with a full 5 gallons of water in it. Nothing wobbled or flexed.

Regularly UsedStainless is the ONLY way to go with a burner. I use this product ever 2 weeks. Make sure that the burner is clean so that nothing is cuasing the line to generate too much soot. Cooking with propane is going to cause soot buildup no matter what you do, but can be managed with air intake.

Would be a good value if. . . . .This would be a great value in a propane outdoor burner, if only it didn't blacken the bottom of cookware. No matter how far open or closed you set the air damper, the flames burn smokey and yellow at ALL gas settings. I spent a couple hours fiddling with this thing to try to find it's "sweet spot," but it simply doesn't exist. I wound up using it one time as I was cooking for a party, and didn't want to heat up my house boiling on the gas range in the kitchen, but WHAT A MESS it made out of my cookware! I'm going to try to return this item and will probably buy a name brand cooker from a store that specialises in outdoor cooking so I can demo the cooker before I buy it. Caveat Emptor.

Why do the instructions say that this is not for frying turkeys? Is it the weight? the material? It is sold in the section with Turkey Fryers
Asked by: jennifer164
The Outdoor Gourmet Stainless Steel Fryer Stand is sold in our Outdoor Living/Fryer section. The Outdoor Gourmet Stainless Steel Fryer Stand is not recommended for frying turkeys because the stand is not constructed to hold the weight of a turkey and because it does not meet safety guidelines for turkey frying.
