Amazing ReelI had this reel and it was awesome. I abused it by using it salt water without ever washing for three seasons in new york. I moved to Florida and purchased a kayak. I flipped and lost the reel along with my trusty uglystik. Purchaed a more expensive pen n reel and it shut down on the second salt water trip i took into a creek. Will be going to Academy to buy a new one!

Great reel and great valueI first purchased Shimano Sienna 4000FD 10 years ago. I do not know much about this reel however I found this reel outperform most expensive reels on the market. If user take care and maintenance regularly like you do to other reels, this reel will last for many years. Even those of you don't know how nor want to take time to maintenance, price and quality of this reel can last you at least 3 to 4 years and affordable. After 10 years I am still using Shimano Sienna 4000FD on all my 11 rods (The one I purchased 10 years ago still perform great). Those who gave this reel a bad review should reconsider, because they either purchased a defect reel or just don't know better. This reel can handle ALL type of fishes and abuses!!!!

work horse reelI saw the bad review and I believe you. You probably just got a lemon.I'd give this reel another chance. I bought 2 of these. One for inshore salt and the other, a crappie sized model. They don't come with a spare spool (hence the low price). They have a good finish, smooth drag that does'nt stick and a good bail spring and flip that doesn't break like Mitchell reels of similar price. The bail wire is a little on the thin side, I like a beefy bail wire. You can't throw em around or they will bend. If you give em a lite wash and keep em lubed these reels perform as well as Shimano mid tier reels. They are just no frils graphite frames with one spool. It is a good aluminum spool with a good washer stack and audible clicker. I would buy another or recomend to a friend. Caught lots of fish from flounder to rainbow trout with mine.

JunkAfter 1 day of very light use it started acting as if it was totally non-lubricated. Became very hard to turn and flip the bail. Took the spool off and put back on. Nothing visibly wrong, was not dropped, submerged, exposed to dirt, etc. Simply became a barely functional reel within 24 hours of first use. Never seen anything like it. Returned it promptly and will now avoid this brand.

Great For Bull Reds(this is the 4000 size)I first used this reel on an inshore guided trip and loved it. When I got home I bought three of them, one in each size. I use the 4000 model for big bull reds, the 2500 for the smaller schooling fish, and the 1000 size for small snapper, pinfish, whiting and other bait/eating fish.
