Are these types of reel's the same as a bait casting reel? With not much experience, will I witness the same amount of backlashes as I do with a bait caster?
Asked by: King James
Hi King James,
Conventional reels are very similar to bait casting models in a variety of ways. Each has a spool axis that is perpendicular to the rod that it is mounted to and the crank handles on both convention and bait-casting reels are crank style. Onshore bait-casting reels offer smooth release and protection against backlash. However, Bait-casting reels designed for saltwater can cause backlash and disruption in your fishing trip. Conventional reels for saltwater are often more comfortable and better suited to dragging fish in when fishing in saltwater
