Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lake Superior and Lake Michigan Approved. Ok. So, I bought 20 of these bad boys. I have 4 of the 20lwlc's for the wire and braided dipsies. They fit 1000 feet of 30lb 7 strand SS wire by blood run, and I actually had to put 250 feet of backing! They're plenty big. Line counter's are flawless, and there is way more than enough drag on these to handle the wire dipsies, you can set them so precisely with the clicker drag system, and when a fish is on, its unbelievable how smooth the drag is, its like there is no start up loss, fish can creep the drag, so smooth! I have 10 of the 20lw's. They can nicely fit 10colors of lead core with 50lb braid backing. I have them on the 4 down rigger rods with a 1000ft of 20lb ande mono, my lead cores and I can fit 150ft of .037 copper with over 700 feet of 50lb 832 backing. I have 4 of the 30lw's, once again, if you need to fit more than 8 colors these are prefered. I have 300ft of .037 blood run copper with 800 feet of 50lb backing. The pick up on these is ridiculous. I raced my buddy's 10color of lead core on a daiwa sealine 57lc, I smoked him, he had 4 colors left. I also have 2 of the 50lw's for my 400' and 350' copper. Fits 700+ feet of 50lb braid. Even faster pick up. The handles are comfy, these reels look so nice on top of all that. I think time will tell whether or not the price point puts these over the tekotas. So far, so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Reels I bought my first Penn Squall reel about a year and a half ago. I now own six of them. I fish for stripers a couple of times a week. The Squall reels have brought in well over a hundred stripers at this point. They are smooth and powerful. I highly recommend the Squall.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Squal 20 LWLC The reel is ok for the price but after 2 seasons of salmon fishing and continuous use in the elements the line counter lens cover came off on 2 of these reels and the counter sticks and sometimes hard to reset to 000

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect anti reverse I bought this reel after buying the Penn Warfare and being disappointed with the anti stop/anti reverse. I had already bought 2 warfare 15s and was out looking for something else. Found a Squall 20 and LOVED the anti reverse so i purchased a Squall 15 and have no regrets.

How is it casting?  Can it be casted wo backlash.  Or is this type reel that is dropped in water behind boat.  I am looking for a pier reel for bull red and shark.

Can this reel be used for surf and pier fishing? If not please recommend a reel that would be good for surf and pier fishing, preferable bait cast.
