Okuma Tundra Saltwater Spinning Rod and Reel Combo

Better for Fresh than Salt WaterI bought this combo for my first saltwater fishing trip (in the surf). The reel is smooth, especially for only one bearing. The rod handled the large weights and long casts very well. Only complaint is that the metal rusted (there's not very much metal on this outfit -- mostly screws and the bail), even though we rinsed our gear with freshwater each day. I had hoped that a combo specifically billed for saltwater might resist that, but what does a guy from Oklahoma really know about saltwater gear. ;)

Excellent combo for the priceI bought this rod & reel combo to return to saltwater fishing for the first time in years. Okuma was pretty much a no-brainer due to past experiences with the brand. Process was fast and easy, and the combo got here in about 4 days. Monofilament was provided and looked to be 8 or 10 lbs, but I immediately replaced it with higher quality line. Pole is well constructed and action is pretty good, especially at that price point. After the second day of fishing, the nut securing the rotor came loose in the reel, and had to be tightened. Reel has only one bearing but is pretty smooth. Cannot vouch for durability as there is a lot of plastic used in the reel. However, for $34.99, this is an excellent deal.
