So for a 20' bass boat will a 40lbs thrust be good?

Asked by: Bowhunter1979
Hello Bowhunter1979, In order to be sure you are purchasing a trolling motor with enough thrust, you will want to consider: 1.) Boat weight (most important factor) 2.) Boat length 3.) Your typical fishing conditions A good rule of thumb is that you want a minimum of 2 lbs. of thrust for every 100lbs. of boat weight. When figuring boat weight, make sure you calculate the heaviest potential weight which includes a boat fully loaded with gear, fuel, and the maximum number of passengers. Example: A boat measuring 14'-16' with a maximum weight of 2,000 lbs. will need a minimum thrust of 40 lbs. A 17' boat with a maximum weight of 2,500 lbs. will need a minimum thrust of 50 lbs.
