Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I bought this ammo and went to the range the very next day. The first 3 rounds shot ok out of my Ruger AR556, but the bolt didn't feel like it was cycling properly. After the fourth shot, the next round failed to feed. I shot another 10 rounds to try and figure out if it was my gun or the ammo, and every time it would fire but the next round would not feed. The last round I attempted to fire jammed in the chamber and the casing punctured on the neck. Lucky, I had 4 other boxes of ammo made by 4 different manufacturers chambered in .223 and 5.56 with a mixture of steel and brass casings. My gun worked flawlessly with the other 4 boxes and I didn't have one hiccup the rest of the day. It was clear that this ammo was making my gun function poorly and I'll never buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time. Traveling north on 75 in GA. and found Academy selling this Monarch Steel for around 6.99 / 20. Also picked up Rem 55/ 20 Brass. Both look clean with no rust. Going to use on a new AR build in the near future. Bought before reading reviews but I'm happy with it. May pick up a few more before pushing north.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ammo I put this ammo to the test last night and it worked flawlessly. No FTF or FTE. I bought 250 rounds of this stuff five months ago and have seen no signs of corrosion as some people claim. Although I do store my ammo in an ammo can. Great ammo for a great price. Will buy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Corrosion on bullets and failure to fire. I bought some of these a few months back and were kept in my house in a controlled environment. This week I thought I would load some mags to shoot this weekend only to find the bullets had corrosion on them. Most was on the tips or the taper away from where the rifling would have contact so I thought I would go ahead and use them up. In one mag I had 2 failure to fire. I'm done with this stuff. The old Monarch brass stuff was pretty good but this is just very cheap ammo. Spend a little more or go with Tula

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They go bang I am perfectly happy to shoot cheap ammo for practice. Academy has been able to permit me to do so without any unforseen downside.

What is the difference between polymer coding and lacquer?  And the question about hollowpoint was not answered. Can somebody answer that question? I too would like to know

Asked by: Retired SFC
Hello Retired SFC, The Monarch® .223 Remington 55-Grain ZN Rifle Ammunition is a hollow point round with 3,140 fps and 1,201 ft. lbs. of energy. This ammunition does have a polymer coating. The lacquer coating and polymer coating both work in the same way to protect the bullet and primer from corrosion. The Polymer option is provided for customer who prefer them over the lacquer. There are zero issues with running lacquer coated rounds, but the Polymer option is provided as it is considered cleaner. Both will function the exact same.

Is this Hollow point as it looks in the picture? Velocity? Any insight on the "polymer" coating?
