Hogue Government Model grip installed on a TaurusI purchased a Taurus 1911 pistol from Academy Sports. A great gun at a great price, but I did not like the plastic grips it came with. The Hogue wraparound is the best grip for a 1911. It adds some size to the grip and feels secure in bigger hands. The Taurus grip screw holes I believe are slightly further back than the standard 1911 and takes some stretching and pulling to get the last hole to lined up, but it will, and fits and looks great. The screws also fit good and flush.
You will need a hexagon (6 sided) H 2.5 screw driver or bit to remove the grip panel screws after spraying with WD-40. Then carefully remove the stock screw bushings with a 3/16 slotted screw driver to not damage the plastic. Mine were fairly tight, hence the WD-40. The grips come off with these bushings. I put some gun oil on the threads and reinstalled the bushings using a 1/4" slotted screw driver for a better fit. There is a recess on the right side for the manual safety lever, but a small amount of the outside edge needs to be trimmed off with a razor blade to finish the recess. The grip holes will snap into place over the bushings. It seamed to work best to do the top two, one bottom, then stretch and pull until the last bottom hole pops into place. Then replace grip screws of course.
I could not find detailed information for installing this grip on this gun online, so I thought this might be of help to others who want to do the same thing.
