I started using Ugly Styks 15 months ago & I just love these rods.It has really improved my catch from what it was before I stated using them. The tip of the rod is so keen & I really feel the presence of the fish so I am always ready to set the hook. Such a good rod for the price.
I recently bought my GX2 four piece travel spinning rod. I took it out to a fresh water lake in Puerto rico on 2/25/2017, can't wait to show you the pictures of two peacock basses I caught. The rod tip bent all the way forward and held up just fine I am very happy. For the price I paid this rod performed well and exceeded my expectations. I recommend the GX2 rod to all fishermen / women.
5 uses that was a terrible exp my bad man I believe you just got a defective real I suggest take your trusted back up for sure but if your a true fishermen give old ugly gx2 another chance I am so confident in mine I won't use nothing but in fact contact shakesphere customer serv explain this to them I bet they will send you a brand new one free of charge that shouldn't have happened I believe was isolated bad real my friend
My girlfriend let me pick a rod & reel combo for my birthday last year and I knew I had to add another Ugly Stik to my collection. My 7 foot Ugly Stik gets the job done but I needed a quality ultra light rod. My 4'8 Gx2 has performed flawlessly and is the gift that keeps on giving. The Shakespeare reel that came with is smooth and I don't intend on replacing it. The tip is very reactive to structure and there is no doubt when a nibble comes along. I've used open face reels for the longest but wanted a good spincast like dad and I used back in the day. I paired this with the Pflueger Trion 10SCB, which is a $70 combo and well worth it. I miss these spin cast reels and use it quite often now. Ugly Stick is known to be strong and dependable, great rods and no since to spend a crazy amount of money when you can get these at such a good price.
I always have liked Ugly stik, and the GX2 no exception. Gave the 7' and the 6' a little overhand swing in the aisle, and the 6' is more easy to control with one hand, but I could definitely tell there was more power in the 7' with two hands. Went with the 6' because it felt better balanced, and love it. I'm going to end up getting a 7' too. I was especially happy with the guides; safe for braid, and don't corrode in salty water!
After recently snapping my fresh water rod I was looking for a sturdy replacement. I popped into Academy and i knew i wanted a ugly stik which one of my friends suggested them for their extreme durability so i found this one and luckily it was on sale for $10 off but i love this pole ! very durable and still very sensitive I may even get another one while its still on sale !
I have to say that Shakespeare Ugly Stick has been a favorite of mine and my fishing friends and hopefully soon my children's go to rode. Not that you shouldn't try other rods and systems. I'm a man that likes variety and choices. But I always find myself comparing other rods and rod combos to the Shakespeare UglyStick. I just got the new GX2 and can't wait to try it out. At first glance it catches your eye with the black matte clean look backed by the red and black chrome accents. But you know ... that's not all looks, it's new Shakespeare graphite and fiberglass technology. I'm sure with this upcoming fishing season it's gonna be a knockout!
Purchased this 7000 Series for Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes. It worked flawlessly! Probably a little bit of overkill for this type of fishing. I cannot wait to use it pier fishing or surf fishing on the Outer Banks. Overall, a great heavy freshwater, or medium/heavy saltwater combo. I've been using Penn products for over 35 years. For the money, you cannot go wrong with any one of the combos in the Pursuit II series.
I have 2 of these combos. A 10' 8000 surf combo and a 7' 4000 combo. I have several other Penn combos and the 4000 pursuit 2 has been my go to. Cant beat the performance at the price point. Mackerel by the dozens, slot reds, snook, etc. Took it apart to clean this week and i was happy about the condition of the gears inside. Solid performance all around. 5" and 6" Powerbait Swim Shads are one of my go-to baits for catching big landlocked stripers. Hooks are sharp and baits are durable. The eyes are not always glued on good and you will lose them sometimes. I really hate to see the 5" and 6" models discontinued. C'mon Berkley, bring them back!
My partner and I were fishing Lake El Salto in Mexico in July 2016. We located fish with the 10 inch power worm black/blue. When that bite slowed down we started using the 4 inch pre-rigged swim shad (chartreuse shad). When we finished the ore or two hours of fish every third or fourth cast, we had caught more than 60 bass that averaged 4.5 to 5 pounds. A good day for Lake El Salto, a GREAT day for any other lake!
After hearing good things about these I decided to buy a pack. I went to my local lake and wasn't having any luck for hours using various types of lures. I tied on one of these and caught four bass in 20 minutes, I was hooked. They could be more durable, but for the price it's hard to complain. Do not buy any other beaver type lure, these are the best.
Been fishing the Beaver for some time now. I fish it like a jig or worm around docks and it does a great job. It skips like a bullet.
Good hooks, sharp and keeps frogs up right bring through weeds..
I have only been able to use this rod a few times because of work, but the few times I have I really like it. It is very sensitive. I like a little bit more back bone in the hook set when I am flounder fishing, but it has done the job so far. I really like it for throwing soft plastics at specks. There is no telling how many fish I have missed in the past using one of my other rods. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
Although I am a Charter Boat Captain and fish saltwater for a living my true love of fishing is from my roots of crappie and bream fishing and I do this every chance I get. Got into spyder rigging for crappies not long ago and was overwhelmed by the rods on the market. Decided to go with a brand I am familiar with and like always Shakesphere came through with everything I needed and expected, the 12' CRAPPIEHUNTER Rods are all you need. Perfect performance every time as always from Shakesphere!!!!
The people there are nice and willing to help you with your order. I purchased several rods and happy with the product.
My TLD is my favorite reel for fishing anywhere for anything offshore.
I needed extra equipment on a budget and chose this rod. I currently use four of these along side a $100 rod and frankly can not tell the difference in performance. I tournament bass fish several times a month and would highly recommend this rod to my friends.
I bought my first Tournament Choice many years ago. I believe these rods can compare to any. I have some expensive rods and I like these as well. I just put a vintage 4500C on a 6 footer. Very nice.
This reel is the backbone of the Penn all purpose saltwater line in my opinion. Quality build, easy to service and repair. Smooth drag and indestructible. Have had mine, (2 of them), for over 15 years and are still as reliable today as the day I bought them. Use them for trolling, kingfish, dolphin, sailfish and grouper as well as conventional bottom fishing for grouper, black bass, grunts, snappers and the "reef donkey" amberjacks. Highly recommend these reels if you want a reliable, all ... purpose reel that you can depend on for years to come. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
i bought a 115L2 Senator (9/0) and matched it with my 9/0 senator boat rod. I loaded the reel down with around 550 yards of 80 lb bullbuster mono and have had a load of fun landing sharks off the beach. Smooth drag, simple and effective designing makes the senator the go to reel for any large fish. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The rod and reel are great, I have already caught 3 bass with it. I could of caught more if the line was stronger, had a couple of the fish snap the line. Everything is great, but I recommend buying stronger line.
Used it for the first time today and caught a 4 lbs largemouth bass. Feels good in your hand when casting, reeling, and fighting the bass.
these add that extra little bit of weight to help your cast, and are easy to attach. love 'em
Easy to use rod and reel plus great bonus with extra reel, just what I needed to replace another that had broken. Can't go wrong with a good Zebco 33
I had bought the little woman an inexpensive rod and reel earlier this year but the reel just didn't fit the bill. Finding this package of a rod and two Zebco 33 Classic reels was just what the doctor ordered. Now she has two good rod and reels. Couldn't be happier.
Casts light lures very well which is a quality that's hard to find. Superb ergonomics and cast quality. Magnetic brakes are nice and strong and have a very linear adjustable range from weakest to strongest. May be the best sub $100 BC reel out there.
These are awesome Crappie baits. Takes very little movement and even a slow retrieve will get the curly tail spinning like crazy. Caught my personal best Black Crappie and White Crappie on these. Order any color as long as it has Chartreuse in it
I almost always start my fishing trips using the shad pole lures. They work excellent for everything from crappie, walleye, bass, and catfish. If I haven't caught anything in the first half hour with this lure then the fish are probably not gonna be biting at all. The lure size and rotating tail make them irresistible to hungry fish.
