This is the go-to rod for all kinds of fishing. And you can't beat it for the price. This is by far the best value model rod I've ever purchased, and it has remained my favorite. There are cheaper rods out there, but this one will last you decades without having to baby it. The tip is super fast and sensitive, but the rod is extremely durable. You can set a hook like a man and reel in toads on the ultralight, as well as delicately hook trout. The longer and heavier weight rods still ... have the sensitive tip to pick up on small bass strikes.
I started using Ugly Styks 15 months ago & I just love these rods.It has really improved my catch from what it was before I stated using them. The tip of the rod is so keen & I really feel the presence of the fish so I am always ready to set the hook. Such a good rod for the price.
Used a 7' gx2 medium heavy to haul in 20 +pound snook . It was bent to a full C but didn't break . Just got the 6'6" heavy to get them in the boat faster .
I've had this rod for quite a few months now and I love the thing! It should be knackered out considering the abuse I've put it through, but its still holding up strong! My one complaint I have about this rod is that the rod tip doesnt flex enough to produce the casts I want, and it is a bit on the heavy side, but other than that I love it! You can feel absolutely everything that hits your lure, and the rod never seems weak when your reeling in a fish. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
After recently snapping my fresh water rod I was looking for a sturdy replacement. I popped into Academy and i knew i wanted a ugly stik which one of my friends suggested them for their extreme durability so i found this one and luckily it was on sale for $10 off but i love this pole ! very durable and still very sensitive I may even get another one while its still on sale !
I bought this line for my ice fishing reels and it has performed very well. It is very flexible, strong and sensitive. No complaints here! As an angler that has used monofilament line for over 20 years, I am happy with the switch.
Over the years I`ve had great success using Berkley Fireline Original Fused Line...Never lost any fish using 10 lb. test line....It lasts all season long...
I use 12lb in this on my bass setups, and 25 to 30lb. Of this my catfish setups all in solar collector (bright green) color. This line handles everything I hook into as well as helps me locate my line quickly when I am getting a bite. Love it!
This product will stand up to any fishing condition you can think of , we put it to the test everyday of the week, when handling catfish up to 120 pounds I wouldnt trust anything else
This is the best bait for fishing when you want to just tie on a lure and throw it out and regardless of how you reel it in it will catch bass/crappie big and small. i went fishn with my brother one day and he grab some shad colored ones and after I say how they just attacked it all day I was sold on them. I found that if you are not using a light action or UL rod you will have trouble with fish gettn off them. These swimbaits do not need much of hook set cause the fish bite on and swims off ... if you jerk it will let go before hook set I just reel down onto the tension and the fish kickn its tall will set the hook if the rod is to stiff they will get off normal.
This is my "Go To Bait" when fishing my farm ponds. Between two ponds, we have to catch 500lbs of bass that weigh less than 3lbs each, and this is the product I use to do it. Great for catching those smaller fish, but have also caught a 6lb on one. This little bait works when nothing else will. I use the smallest ones and fish them in 4 inches of water to 10 ft.
This line is essential if you want to fish in cover or for trolling. I would not use anything other than this line when I am trolling because you never know what you are going to catch when you are trolling so you want to make sure that you are prepared.
It a was a great deal. I would like to see it again but with a bigger spool, more than 110yds.
Bought this rod for my girlfriend for Christmas but couldn't wait. We took it striper fishing just to see how it did. First fish broke off using 12lb line. But was happy to see her haul in a 6lb striper yesterday. I am very impressed with the this rod and ugly stik as a whole. Will be buying there striper combos for bigger striper soon.
I bought this rod a couple of weeks ago and was impressed by the balance as well as action. It has yet to make it to the lake but from all appearances it wont be disappointing.
I have tried all sorts of different types of braided line until I came to spiderwire. I will never buy a different brand. The lack of memory that the line has is great as it cuts down on other products needed. You can get a small nick in the line and it will not damage integrity of the line. Also the line is priced right for the angler on a budget.
you get what you pay for in two things....fishing line and tires...dont be cheap...but if you are gonna be cheap this was a decient choice...pulled through the weeds good and never lost a lure on it....gotta reef on the knots on them braided lines boys...
I bought a set of these a few years ago and have been looking for another set ever since. They are not easy to find, it turns out. They do best with two rods in them, four is a little crowded. I put the kids rods in them and suction cup the holder to a flat backed tackle box and I have all their gear in one hand. I also use them on the boat to store the rods. One of the suction cups did pop of the holder but a little super glue and it has held up for over 2 years now. I'm glad I found them again!
I got one with 6:1 retrieve in May and was so impressed I bought another in June with a lightning fast 8:1 retrieve ratio. I have 12 bait casting reels and after nearly 60 years of casting these are my favorites. The Super Duty handles everything from rubber worms to crank baits to buzz baits with ease. The drag is remarkable, trophy pike are no match for this little reel. Ten pound to 50 pound braided line all cast with ease and the reel is small in the hand and a joy to use. On top of all this ... the price is right. I sincerely believe this reel out performs others at twice the price.
90% of all my fishing tackle comes from Academy. They have the products I need, all the right colors AND at the right price. My orders always arrive fast and correct.
I like this best so far. I think the lack of line memory and ease of handling makes it better than Sunline Sniper. I liked Seagar Invisix, but this handles better and has better knot strength and less stretch. I know it is expensive, but it has held up pretty well for me this year. If you are new to fluorocarbon, do yourself a favor and always use line conditioner.
I have only been able to use this rod a few times because of work, but the few times I have I really like it. It is very sensitive. I like a little bit more back bone in the hook set when I am flounder fishing, but it has done the job so far. I really like it for throwing soft plastics at specks. There is no telling how many fish I have missed in the past using one of my other rods. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
Great leader material. The best part is the smaller spool, it fits in pocket or tackle box/bag better than the bigger spools.
Excellent product. Would highly recommend if you have never tried them.
Bought to catch specs but warmouths loved them! Nice
Excellent rod and reel combo for the money. Its one of the rods i always have in my SUV (along with my short dock fishing rod) because I can catch all the fish i fish for with this combo, Trout, Crappie, Bass and Catfish and I don't have to worry about it getting banged around. Its sensitive enough for small pan fish and strong enough for Bass and catfish. I've used live bait and artificial and always with braided line and florocarbon leaders that i change depending on what Im fishing for. I ... have an expensive 7ft 4 inch KVD Tour Spinning Rod and T40 Carbon Reel and the Mitchell is heavier but not by much so its very light and comfortable when casting all day. I liked it so much I bought a second one.
I bought this reel and rod combo about a month ago and it has replaced my favorite up to this point reel. It is noticeable the difference between my old spinning. The reel has incredible smooth and & quiet motion. The 8 ball bearings provide great casting and retraction. It was an impulse buy and I read reviews afterward which made me second guess but knock on wood this is my favorite reel & rod combo. Made me a Mitchell believer and customer.
