I started using Ugly Styks 15 months ago & I just love these rods.It has really improved my catch from what it was before I stated using them. The tip of the rod is so keen & I really feel the presence of the fish so I am always ready to set the hook. Such a good rod for the price.
I purchased two of the Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Rods since they come in four sections and are great for traveling. Also, I have other Ugly Stik Rods and have been very satisfied with their performance.
5 uses that was a terrible exp my bad man I believe you just got a defective real I suggest take your trusted back up for sure but if your a true fishermen give old ugly gx2 another chance I am so confident in mine I won't use nothing but in fact contact shakesphere customer serv explain this to them I bet they will send you a brand new one free of charge that shouldn't have happened I believe was isolated bad real my friend
I worked for a camp in Maine as a fishing instructor this past summer and I purchased this rod/reel combo as an instructor rod. Both parts stood up to daily heavy use for 7 weeks straight, and once I got home I purchased one for my personal use in Ohio and Pennsylvania. I love this rod for trout fishing while backpacking in PA, and for light fishing in streams and out on Lake Erie. A few of my friends have purchased this rod to use with their preferred reels, but I have found no issues with the ... stock reel, I love this combo (especially with 6lb Berkley vanish)!
I've used open face reels for the longest but wanted a good spincast like dad and I used back in the day. I paired this with the Pflueger Trion 10SCB, which is a $70 combo and well worth it. I miss these spin cast reels and use it quite often now. Ugly Stick is known to be strong and dependable, great rods and no since to spend a crazy amount of money when you can get these at such a good price.
I have to say that Shakespeare Ugly Stick has been a favorite of mine and my fishing friends and hopefully soon my children's go to rode. Not that you shouldn't try other rods and systems. I'm a man that likes variety and choices. But I always find myself comparing other rods and rod combos to the Shakespeare UglyStick. I just got the new GX2 and can't wait to try it out. At first glance it catches your eye with the black matte clean look backed by the red and black chrome accents. But you know ... that's not all looks, it's new Shakespeare graphite and fiberglass technology. I'm sure with this upcoming fishing season it's gonna be a knockout!
After recently snapping my fresh water rod I was looking for a sturdy replacement. I popped into Academy and i knew i wanted a ugly stik which one of my friends suggested them for their extreme durability so i found this one and luckily it was on sale for $10 off but i love this pole ! very durable and still very sensitive I may even get another one while its still on sale !
Purchased this 7000 Series for Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes. It worked flawlessly! Probably a little bit of overkill for this type of fishing. I cannot wait to use it pier fishing or surf fishing on the Outer Banks. Overall, a great heavy freshwater, or medium/heavy saltwater combo. I've been using Penn products for over 35 years. For the money, you cannot go wrong with any one of the combos in the Pursuit II series.
I bought 5 of these rods in the largest reel model and rod height. I was concerned about the castability of these as they are not directly listed as a surf rod under the desc, but upon a weeklong test they out preformed several of my 12 and 15 footers. As for the reels they have one of the smoothest drags i've seen in a while. I wound them all slap full of 65lb spiderwire braid and haven't got a windknot yet. Great retrieve and comfortable grip. 11/10 Would buy again. [This review was collected ... as part of a promotion.]
5" and 6" Powerbait Swim Shads are one of my go-to baits for catching big landlocked stripers. Hooks are sharp and baits are durable. The eyes are not always glued on good and you will lose them sometimes. I really hate to see the 5" and 6" models discontinued. C'mon Berkley, bring them back!
This is the best bait for fishing when you want to just tie on a lure and throw it out and regardless of how you reel it in it will catch bass/crappie big and small. i went fishn with my brother one day and he grab some shad colored ones and after I say how they just attacked it all day I was sold on them. I found that if you are not using a light action or UL rod you will have trouble with fish gettn off them. These swimbaits do not need much of hook set cause the fish bite on and swims off ... if you jerk it will let go before hook set I just reel down onto the tension and the fish kickn its tall will set the hook if the rod is to stiff they will get off normal.
I have only been able to use this rod a few times because of work, but the few times I have I really like it. It is very sensitive. I like a little bit more back bone in the hook set when I am flounder fishing, but it has done the job so far. I really like it for throwing soft plastics at specks. There is no telling how many fish I have missed in the past using one of my other rods. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
After hearing good things about these I decided to buy a pack. I went to my local lake and wasn't having any luck for hours using various types of lures. I tied on one of these and caught four bass in 20 minutes, I was hooked. They could be more durable, but for the price it's hard to complain. Do not buy any other beaver type lure, these are the best.
This lure has an amazing action to it, but the only small problem with it is that it is very soft and may rip after a couple bass caught. I also caught my personal best in this lure. 5 pounds.
I have almost all weights, sizes and colors available. My favorite jighead for saltwater soft plastics, the hook is much stronger than regular light wire hooks. also works well for an Alabama rig in freshwater.
These are probably my favorite jig heads. They hold lures well and are strong.
I like this best so far. I think the lack of line memory and ease of handling makes it better than Sunline Sniper. I liked Seagar Invisix, but this handles better and has better knot strength and less stretch. I know it is expensive, but it has held up pretty well for me this year. If you are new to fluorocarbon, do yourself a favor and always use line conditioner.
Excellent rod and reel combo for the money. Its one of the rods i always have in my SUV (along with my short dock fishing rod) because I can catch all the fish i fish for with this combo, Trout, Crappie, Bass and Catfish and I don't have to worry about it getting banged around. Its sensitive enough for small pan fish and strong enough for Bass and catfish. I've used live bait and artificial and always with braided line and florocarbon leaders that i change depending on what Im fishing for. I ... have an expensive 7ft 4 inch KVD Tour Spinning Rod and T40 Carbon Reel and the Mitchell is heavier but not by much so its very light and comfortable when casting all day. I liked it so much I bought a second one.
Got my start in fishing with these reels 300, 308, 408 and so on as a matter of fact I still have them and they still work well that's a stament in itself with all the new manufacturers to chose from most don't last or perform to expectations [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I used many punch baits before and cj is one of the best. Ive tried all flavors and they all produce good results. Only thing i would suggest is to use a furry thing by team catfish. It helps keeps the bait on longer, a great bait at a great price
Great leader material. The best part is the smaller spool, it fits in pocket or tackle box/bag better than the bigger spools.
I bought a set of these a few years ago and have been looking for another set ever since. They are not easy to find, it turns out. They do best with two rods in them, four is a little crowded. I put the kids rods in them and suction cup the holder to a flat backed tackle box and I have all their gear in one hand. I also use them on the boat to store the rods. One of the suction cups did pop of the holder but a little super glue and it has held up for over 2 years now. I'm glad I found them again!
I bought this recently and have caught many fish on it. This lure in black and blue is big time at night. If you fish at night, then you need to have at least two of these in your box.
I bought a pack of these to try, and knew just by seeing them they had to work. Not only did they work, but they were awesome. Started pulling out 13" crappie one after the other. So much fun, and so easy to use. First the string stop, then the cork, next the bead, and your choice of sinker and hook, or jig. I can't wait to do it again.
This bobber works better than any I have ever used for popping crappie jigs. It's straight thru line guide prevents your line from cutting into the bobber and hanging up. A great product.
I needed extra equipment on a budget and chose this rod. I currently use four of these along side a $100 rod and frankly can not tell the difference in performance. I tournament bass fish several times a month and would highly recommend this rod to my friends.
I bought my first Tournament Choice many years ago. I believe these rods can compare to any. I have some expensive rods and I like these as well. I just put a vintage 4500C on a 6 footer. Very nice.
Have been buying this Brand and size for years and it has never let me down. Almost all of it has been in saltwater use.
