Abu STX is my go to reels. Very durable and light. Never had any issues with these reels. I keep them maintained and they never fail. Wouldn't have anything else on my deck.
I own 4 of these and just bought a new one with the 7.1 to 1 gear so I can crank the spinnerbaits a little faster. I fish mostly muskies but with bass style rods and reels and the larger bass style lures. I've caught muskies up to 54 inch on these reels because they cast great and are the only low profile reels with 20 lbs of brake. My outfits are light and comfortable and I can fish with purpose all day while the guys with the giant reels and the 9 ft rods are worn out. I can fish any lure from ... 1/4oz to 1 oz with same outfit. Other reels don't allow you to do that. I wouldn't use anything else and have my son and 7 grandsons using these same reels. I have had a few promax baitcasters for a couple years and have been very happy with them. I came across the chance to buy one of these for a great deal so I jumped at the chance. The alloy frame and smooth bearings give this revo a great, quality feel. It casts great and is very smooth and strong. The 20lb drag is a bonus. A lot of more expensive reels don't have a drag that strong. I've owned it for a couple weeks and have fished with it 6 times. So far I really like it a lot.
Fishing in saltwater. Handles big redfish with ease. Very happy with this reel. Cast a mile.
Been using Shimano for 30yrs and not happy with quality anymore. Bought this Penn a year ago. What took me so long? So smooth and still performs like new.Going to buy a twin soon!
I normally catfish with heavy duty bait cast reels but was in the market for something a little easier to cast in shallow water timber areas using slip bobbers and light weights. This reel was the ticket; 1st cast into timber and reeled in an 8.3 pound channel cat. Cast and retrieve are smooth as silk and what a HOSS of a reel in a small package. 12 whisker kitty's in less than 30 minutes with smallest being 4 pounds and not one glitch out of this reel. I will be purchasing additional for my arsenal.
I bought the Battle II 6000 just over a year ago. Took it out for a big test offshore out of Venice Louisiana. The performance was impeccable. Light smooth and perfectly balanced. I was at first concerned it wouldn't not handle some of the large species we are known to catch off the Louisiana coast but was very pleased and impressed with the smooth performance and the drag power. Put it on a Penn Battle II 7' fast action rod and pulled in large snapper, amberjack, king and even a 125# shark with ... no problem. After that trip I went out and bought the battle II 3000 for inshore trout and redfish and black drum. The 3000 performed great on 2 30+ lb black drum. Been fishing 40 years now and these are by far my favorites. I'm a Penn man for life! Hitting Venice with them again this July for big Tuna. Can't wait to put it to the test!
I own 2 of the original battle reels so when the upgraded battle II came out what did I do? Yes! I bought 3 of them. Do I own other reels by other manufacturers? Absolutely, however I have been a Penn man my whole life. If you look at my extensive tackle collection you will see that over 50% of it is Penn products. Penn products are made to last. This reel out performs many higher end reels that are much more expensive. It has plenty of torque, it casts like a dream, and the bent handles provide maximum comfort. The reel is incredible, but the only complaint that I have (and the reason that I gave it 4 stars rather than 5) is that it isn't available in higher gear ratios. A 5.4:1 may be great to some people, but it is a little too slow for me, even with cranking. My advice is that if you know that you are comfortable with a 5.4:1, ... definitely purchase this reel as it is fantastic in every other aspect. However, if you are used to fishing reels in the 6-7 gear ratio range, be prepared for a much slower retrieval. I wish Abu would make them in higher gear ratios. If they had this same reel available in a 6.4:1 or a 7.1:1, I would buy several more of them.
I bought one and loved the performance, that I now own 8 Orra SX. That's not including 2 Revo Stx. I have fished with all my reels without any issues at first. I have noticed that you must baby these reels. You have to keep them extra clean ( clean them every 6 outings ) or they will start to make some noise during the cast . All you have to do is to clean and lube the bearings frequently. I have had no more issues with these reels since I've been babying them. Great reels for the price.
This reel is smooth and easy to fish with. Very good quality
I had tried several budget baitcaster reels from other company's and could not learn to use them. Continuously frustrated with backlashes, I sold the ones I had and swore to never use them again. After being urged by a friend to just try a few casts with his upper end baitcaster, I decided to give it another try. Still looking for a budget baitcaster, I went with the Abu Garcia Pro Max. WOW!!!! I have to admit I will never leave the baitcaster again. These reels are amazingly smooth and easy to ... cast with light or heavy baits. I have since bought two more and couldn't be happier!!
I bought this reel to wade for stripers on windy points. I'm almost always casting into a brisk breeze or wind. I set these reels to throw maximum distance without overrun. A 5/8 oz H2O rattle bait and 14# mono are a good combo for what I do.
Hands down best reel for your money. They should be selling them for $200 each.
I purchased 2 of these reels for my kids to replace the cheap ones they have used for 2 years. They have always loved to fish, but would become frustrated quickly because the reels they had were just poor quality all around, and they couldn't cast well at all with them. I decided to introduce them to the time proven Zebco 33, and I'm so glad I did. It really gave them a new confidence in their own skills when they saw how far they could cast, and how much more accurate they can be with them. I ... even find myself grabbing one of them to use when crappie fishing, as opposed to my spinning reel setup. If I was to have a complaint at all, it would be the 4lb line that comes on them. That's not an issue for many folks though, myself included.
This is without doubt the best spincasting I bought today. Very beautiful and with excellent performance. My fisheries are even better.
I bought this during the Black Friday deals and combined it with a blackout rod. I have not had a single issue with this reel. drag and the brake setting are great. hardly any backlashes with this reel. *you will always have backlashes with a baitcaster no matter how good you are. Great price as well.
I have used this reel on multiple occasions since receiving it three weeks ago. As suspected, it performs flawlessly. It is one of the few reels on the market that has 3 cast control systems; magnetic, centrifical and spool friction. Once dialed in it casts beautifully. I save a lot of time not dealing with bird nests which turns into more time with my lure in the water and catching fish. Stuck thirty (30) bass from 1 to 4.5 pounds two days ago at a private lake and the reel worked great. ... Lew's changed the color to a lighter shade of white which I think was a very good move. Like others, I wish Lew's would include a small vile of reel oil with their product as a goodwill gesture but, controlling costs is also important. Get one or two, I have.
I have had this reel for a while now and use it every weekend. Fast retrieve and mega drag to bring in the big girls! If you haven't tried 13 Fishing reels yet, what are you waiting for. One of the best period!
This reel is awesome, cast great, and very well made .
Love the feel of this reel . I'm ready to catch some panfish with my new reel.
The Zebco 33 Max is "The Answer" to large line fishing with a closed face reel. 20 pound test line is PERFECT for large bass and catfish. Great power is also achieved with this larger reel.
I've been bass fishing my entire life and this reel outshines all the Shimanos, AbuGarcias, etc. that I own. Lew's outcasts the others and is the smoothest I've ever had. Yes, I had the opportunity to catch an 11 lb. 2 oz. on it and the drag worked flawlessly. If you want a great reel for a reasonable price, I strongly suggest this reel. I also love the contoured non-slip handle it comes with. I'll be buying another one soon.
I bought this a month ago and I am in love with this reel
I own several of these reels. Very smooth action and very dependable. They are better than other much more expensive reels that I have owned.
I received one of these reels as a gift, and immediately went out and bought another one of the best reels I've ever owned, it out cast and out performs many of my higher end reels.
I've been fishing Daiwa since the TD-X came out in the mid 2000's and I felt it was time to update my reels and after doing some intensive research I bought two Tatula HS, one Tatula CT, and a JDM RYOGA. The RYOGA is a $500 reel, but I feel that the Tatula is just as smooth and of the highest quality. You will never regret the purphase.
This reel is awesome the smoothest reel I have ever owned, casting is great even with 40lb test braid. The drag system is very good just the power and smoothness alone is worth buying it. Feels good in the hand due to the low profile and the first time out with it put a 5&6 lb bass in the boat plus a state record bowfin 17lb 36in. in the boat. This reel handled it no problem for the price excellent choice thanks daiwa and academy sports.
My wife bought me one as a Christmas gift and it is as good or better than reels costing a lot more money, best bang for the buck in baitcasting reels. Extremely smooth, cast a mile and has a strong drag. If you're considering one you won't be disappointed.
I have had reels in the same price category from several other companies in the industry. This blows the competition out of the water! Performs just as well as the $200+ reels that I own!
I got my new Ardent Apex a month ago and am no going to replace all of my other reels with the Ardent Apex....
I was deciding which reel to buy for my upcoming crappie dock shooting trip and was very undecided as to which size and brand of reel to purchase. I visited a popular fishing forum specializing in crappies and the recommendations were varied according to each fishermen's needs and usage. I finally looked at the Quantum Optix line and read all of the specs on the various reels since this met my needs as a beginner dock shooter. I finally ended up purchasing 3 of the Quantum Optix 20 reels ... because of the size of the spool and bail. The reel performed above my expectations and everything about the reel was as smooth as could be. I never had a backlash or trouble with the line getting tangled during the whole day's of dock shooting for crappie. The Optix 20 drag was as good as any expensive reel and the anti-reverse was superb without any problems. For the price of these reels you cannot go wrong.
This reel works as well for me as any of my Shimano spinning reels. My first time fishing with it I caught a 3 pound and a 5 pound bass on a shaky head. The drag worked perfectly. I was using straight 8lb mono line. I was worried about the reel because of it having so few bearings, but it is just as smooth as my high dollar reels. Only change I would make is I wish it came in a faster gear ratio, but other than that I couldn't be happier. I will be getting more of these.
