I have bought 3 reels and one rod so far and looking to get one more reel to complete my new fishing ensemble. I have not had the chance to try them yet but if they perform like they look then I will have gotten a very good set-up for all my fishing needs. Penn is extremely fast with their shipments and very friendly to talk with pertaining to any help you can ask them for. Very satisfied so far. Proud to be an American.
Put this reel through some sharks and big reds, handled em great. Smooth drag.
Abu STX is my go to reels. Very durable and light. Never had any issues with these reels. I keep them maintained and they never fail. Wouldn't have anything else on my deck.
A friend of mine let me use one of these reels and it didn't take me long to figure out that I was in need of an update to my gear. I purchased a couple of these reels and was in business the only problem was once you use these reels your not going to use your old favorites.these reels are so light and smooth it isn't a workout to tourney fish anymore. These reels allow you to stay in touch with your baits witch in turn puts more fish in the boat. All I can say is less fatigue more fish in the ... boat. Thanks for keeping me in the game.
I have had a few promax baitcasters for a couple years and have been very happy with them. I came across the chance to buy one of these for a great deal so I jumped at the chance. The alloy frame and smooth bearings give this revo a great, quality feel. It casts great and is very smooth and strong. The 20lb drag is a bonus. A lot of more expensive reels don't have a drag that strong. I've owned it for a couple weeks and have fished with it 6 times. So far I really like it a lot.
These reels are smooth casting and easily adjusted. The new cast controls on the Gen 3 reels makes these the easiest reels to fine tune without magnetic cast controls.
They are all I wil use. I have caught many fish on the surf in all kinds of crazy weather. Not one problem.
First started fishing when I was a kid with my dad and every reel we had were penn! Anyways I have a battle 1 4000 and a battle 2 3000! Great reels they last forever as long as you take care of them. A little Heavy most penns are still can cast all day. When is comes to spinning reels I'll never buy another brand. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
accidentally lost rod/reel in lake- retrieved it after 2 days on the bottom and it still works like a boss. It did need a little cleaning and grease though. Caught my all time best largemouth (8lbs) on it last summer too. Tried and true reels, my dad still uses two ambassadeurs that are over 40 years old and doesn't miss a beat. You can't go wrong with an ambassadeur!
I HAVE OWNED ROUND REELS FOR ABOUT 30 YEARS. STARTED WITH c-3 5501 AND 6501. caught MANY SALMON AND STEELHEAD WITH THEM. THEN WORK FORCED ME AWAY FROM FISHING, SO I SOLD THEM. RECENTLY I RETIRED SO BOUGHT C-4 5501 AND 6501 REELS. THE BEST MODIFICATION WAS CHANGING THE DRAG WASHERS TO THE NEW CARBON ONES. THE PROBLEM IS, I ALSO PURCHASED A REVO SX REEL. THAT ONE REALLY WORKS FOR LIGHT SPINNERS FOR STEELHEAD. I WOULD LOVE TO TRYOUT THE REVO STX, WITH CENTRIFIGAL CAST CONTROL LIKE THE C-4 REELS. ... GUESS THIS SHOWS MY WIFE IS WRONG, YOU REALLY DO NEED SEVERAL REELS DEPENDING ON THEIR PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
I have fished with ABU GARCIA reels for 60 plus years , and no reel ever made can take the wear and tear of a ABU GARCIA .I have friends that tell me all the time look at my new reel ,I tell them if they had bought a ABU GARCIA their old reel would still be as good as new . I fish ,and all of my reels are ABU GARCIAS , How can you make a great reel better . they try to copy it but never have. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I had tried several budget baitcaster reels from other company's and could not learn to use them. Continuously frustrated with backlashes, I sold the ones I had and swore to never use them again. After being urged by a friend to just try a few casts with his upper end baitcaster, I decided to give it another try. Still looking for a budget baitcaster, I went with the Abu Garcia Pro Max. WOW!!!! I have to admit I will never leave the baitcaster again. These reels are amazingly smooth and easy to ... cast with light or heavy baits. I have since bought two more and couldn't be happier!!
I've been an inshore fresh and salt water angler for 20+ yrs now and this has been one of the best reels for both waters that I've owned. I currently have 4 of these reels and it gets the nickname "The Tractor" because it doesn't matter what fish is on the end whether it be a 2-3lb bass or a 10-15lb red, its going to keep pulling until that fish is landed. This is one of the rare situations where you get a lot more reel than than what the price tag shows.
Best all around reel. If you like round reels. Hands down.
Was considering the shimano stradic but could not tell a difference in smoothness. Great reel for the price with bonus of more durable aluminum body compared to stradic.
Very Smooth operation and works just as great as higher-priced competitors. I would recommend this to anyone!
Bought as a spare just to give it a shot. Uhhhh LOVE IT. Was shocked be the quality from day one and I've owned it 6 months without a single issue. It's one of my go-to reels now and I've bought 2 more.
I purchased a right hand and left hand for two to three day trips so I can switch hand and not burn out. I love these reels and have landed 35 lb yellow-fin tuna, 40 lb deep water yellow tail, and 10+ lb ling cod. The squall is easy to cast and adjusting the drag is a cinch. The over sized handle and knob make even larger fish more manageable. I would recommend the squall lever drag to any angler that likes conventional reels, you will not be disappointed. I love the spinfisher, battle 2, and the fathom, but this reel is different. 2 of the three reels I purchased had the drags break while fighting big 20-30lb yellowtails. I returned them for a new pair of squalls and decided that they simply couldn't handle that much drag (20lbs) and now use them for rockfishing or trolling for small bonitos or yellows. In replacement for the squalls I bought the fathom 30. Great reel which I recommend for yellowtail fishing as the squall is best for rockfishing.
I have had this reel for a while now and use it every weekend. Fast retrieve and mega drag to bring in the big girls! If you haven't tried 13 Fishing reels yet, what are you waiting for. One of the best period!
I bought this reel with no real expectations of greatness. I was wrong. I would say it's a great reel for the money but it's really a great reel regardless of price. It has a drag you'd never expect at this price. I'll be buying many more.
This is a great reel and that even novice users can learn to handle quickly. The 5:1:1 gear ratio makes for a great cast and smooth retrieval. Took it out the first time and was casting 60 yards with ease and with no back lash in the line.
I paired this reel with a 9.99 rod, added some 6 or 8 lb line. Went back the next day and bought 5 more. One had the nib of the catch break off, still works, but not well. The other have gotten heavy use over the last 6 year or so. The "trigger" makes is a great open face reel for newbies, people who have never fished learn it in just a couple of tries. Kicked one in the lake, three just got stolen, about to go buy another half dozen.
I purchased this reel a week ago and put it on a rod that I found abandoned back in the canal I fish and I have been slaughtering the catfish ever since!
Bought this Reel and never looked back. Bail flips smooth and no back up, when you stop. As good as I have ever owned, and I have had them all. Love the Max 4 Camo - and on the right rod - it's a killer.
The Zebco 33 Max is "The Answer" to large line fishing with a closed face reel. 20 pound test line is PERFECT for large bass and catfish. Great power is also achieved with this larger reel.
Great reel, has handled everything I've thrown at it so far.
This is a good reel. I handle those redfish with ease in surfside texas. The specks are no match either. Plenty of fish in my freezer with this badboy. Lews all the way.
Just bought this reel replacing one that was stolen. Felt great in the store. Seems very smooth. I will be taking it out this Saturday to give it a full test run. Very optimistic about how well it will do since I know lews is a great brand.
Casts smooth as butter, holds a ton of line and the drag is very smooth as well.
Wouldn't go deep dropping without it! It pulls ever thing up no matter how big!
