Being new to bait casting I spent quite a bit of time researching a number of different reels before deciding on this one. So glad I did as it was very easy to set up and use after some backyard practice. Watching a number of how to videos on YouTube was very helpful and I highly recommend newbys to do so
Abu STX is my go to reels. Very durable and light. Never had any issues with these reels. I keep them maintained and they never fail. Wouldn't have anything else on my deck.
I put this reel throw the test, with 65lb spiderwire and hold on, it will move your feet if drag is tight , with 35lbs lock down
I've been using penn reels my entire life. Using them inshore, from the surf, and in the ocean. They are extremely corrosion resistant and are sealed pretty well. My only complaint is that water can get into the drag and other components at times. Fortunately they are very easy to service at home. All of the features are great and the new model handles braid very well. Can't beat this reels reliability in saltwater for the price! Will continue to buy these reels for my boat. this reel is honestly a great buy its my favorite reel that i have right now along with the abu garcia veritas 2.0, great combo.
I bought this real for crank baits but its so smooth t will throw anything from wacky to deep crank. Thanks Academy for carrying quality gear.
I have had a few promax baitcasters for a couple years and have been very happy with them. I came across the chance to buy one of these for a great deal so I jumped at the chance. The alloy frame and smooth bearings give this revo a great, quality feel. It casts great and is very smooth and strong. The 20lb drag is a bonus. A lot of more expensive reels don't have a drag that strong. I've owned it for a couple weeks and have fished with it 6 times. So far I really like it a lot.
If I could take 65lb braid, tie it around the world (using a polymar knot of course) and choose one reel to bring in ole girl!? Man, it would be this reel. A true blessing, an all around work horse. I'll never use another brand. Give yourself a round of applause.
They are all I wil use. I have caught many fish on the surf in all kinds of crazy weather. Not one problem.
I use Penn Conflict and Penn Battle II Spinning reels for all my inshore tournament fishing. When it comes to the Penn Battle II reel, you will not purchase a better reel for the price point this reel is offered. Simply a reliable work horse reel.
I currently own 3 and have owned 9 other 6600C4 along with BCX model and the C3, and several more. This mode (C4) IS THE BEST! I have seen reviews saying when they have a load on them they are hard to reel but I've never had a problem with any of my C4 and have caught hundreds of fish on them. I use mine for fishing catfish and carp tournaments definitely put them through all the tests! Rain or shine, I will be using mine ALL THE TIME. When there is money on line, I trust nothing else! I love my C4!
I bought about a year ago, hauled in 50+ lb cats with this real with no problem this thing will cast as far as you can throw it, well worth the $$
I bought this during the Black Friday deals and combined it with a blackout rod. I have not had a single issue with this reel. drag and the brake setting are great. hardly any backlashes with this reel. *you will always have backlashes with a baitcaster no matter how good you are. Great price as well.
I like how compact it is, the retrieve ratio, and the ease of usage!
I bought this reel a couple months ago I have used it a lot and have probably caught around 120 bass on it already. it casts REEL smooth and works great. backlashes are extremely rare and it is a good reel if you want something nice but dont have $200 to blow on a casting reel.
I bought this reel last Friday and took it to the bay the next day and I love this reel!! I adjusted the braking system the way the manual said by weight and it cast perfect and I don't even have to use my thumb at the end of the cast! It's very smooth and has very nice clicking drag star and clicking spool tension knob for fine adjustments. It was a very windy day and I had no problems casting into the wind after following the manual. I will be buying another one soon. This now my go to bait casting reel.
Very good buying experience and happy with purchase
I just bought this reel, love it almost identical to the older Mystic! Love my Mystic and I am really enjoying my Tach-40! Casting is wonderful, don't have to throw it hard to make it cast far and retrieving is awesome! So so smooth even smoother than my old Mystic! Buy it you won't regret it!
Wouldn't go deep dropping without it! It pulls ever thing up no matter how big!
I paired this reel with a 9.99 rod, added some 6 or 8 lb line. Went back the next day and bought 5 more. One had the nib of the catch break off, still works, but not well. The other have gotten heavy use over the last 6 year or so. The "trigger" makes is a great open face reel for newbies, people who have never fished learn it in just a couple of tries. Kicked one in the lake, three just got stolen, about to go buy another half dozen.
I have a couple of these and use them for bass and crappie fishing. Love the trigger! Never understood why more spinning reels don't have this feature.Tough reel , smooth and just all around great spinning reel and you can't beat this price. I like this reel better than some $80. Shimanos I have.
I needed another reel and the specs on this one look good, great reel to use.
This reel has done wonders for me I bought it and have hauled some huge fish with it it's a work horse I highly recommend it!
I purchased a right hand and left hand for two to three day trips so I can switch hand and not burn out. I love these reels and have landed 35 lb yellow-fin tuna, 40 lb deep water yellow tail, and 10+ lb ling cod. The squall is easy to cast and adjusting the drag is a cinch. The over sized handle and knob make even larger fish more manageable. I would recommend the squall lever drag to any angler that likes conventional reels, you will not be disappointed. I went out last year for bluefish. On two trips I caught nothing using the gear supplied on the boat. I bought this reel and I am truly satisfied! I have a bad back. I went out for striped bass today out of Captree and while everyone else had a fight reeling in their fish, I did it with ease. It was like I was reeling in a minnow. The only fight I had was with my bad back. After the fish got on the boat, other fishermen came over to me because I was in pain. I told them reeling in the fish was ... easy. The mate told them I have the BMW of reels. My back was the only problem. Great investment!!!!!!
I put two of them on the TFO Joe Robinson inspired rods loaded with 2 lb test. The size, weight and smooth drag really compliment the awesome rod. Together they are perfect medicine microlight and finesse presentation for targeting Austin area monster sunfish. My son and I love hearing the drag sing on tons of bass, bluegill and red ears! The folks at Academy on Brodie helped out a ton when I needed the second one. Yvonne checked other locations then ordered it on an iPhone and it was at my door ... two days later! Like fishing magic! Y'all rock!
I bought my first Pfleuger President Micro a few months ago to use with a BnM Sam's 12' Jig rod (for crappie n sometimes bream), and it's been my favorite setup, and more addictive than bass-fishing. It seems to be a fish magnet compared to my other rods, and as crazy as it sounds, I've been getting hooksets on mid-sized largemouth bass with worms on size 8 hooks, using Mr Crappie 4 lb test. I was gonna try to get the next model down for a bream-specific reel, but they didn't have any so I ... picked up another president micro, which i'm sure I'll love as much as my first one. Outstanding spinning reel, great for panfishing, when used with Mr Crappie Hi-Vis 4 lb test line.
This is a good reel. I handle those redfish with ease in surfside texas. The specks are no match either. Plenty of fish in my freezer with this badboy. Lews all the way.
Just bought this reel replacing one that was stolen. Felt great in the store. Seems very smooth. I will be taking it out this Saturday to give it a full test run. Very optimistic about how well it will do since I know lews is a great brand.
i bought this reel to do some snapper and troll fishing out in the gulf it did great for both the jacks didnt stand a chance
I bought my fishing pole a month ago I love this fishing pole best fishing pole ever had
I was deciding which reel to buy for my upcoming crappie dock shooting trip and was very undecided as to which size and brand of reel to purchase. I visited a popular fishing forum specializing in crappies and the recommendations were varied according to each fishermen's needs and usage. I finally looked at the Quantum Optix line and read all of the specs on the various reels since this met my needs as a beginner dock shooter. I finally ended up purchasing 3 of the Quantum Optix 20 reels ... because of the size of the spool and bail. The reel performed above my expectations and everything about the reel was as smooth as could be. I never had a backlash or trouble with the line getting tangled during the whole day's of dock shooting for crappie. The Optix 20 drag was as good as any expensive reel and the anti-reverse was superb without any problems. For the price of these reels you cannot go wrong.
Very reliable and small quantum reel is one of my favorite spinning reels. The you get a good fight with the fish with this reel.
