Abu STX is my go to reels. Very durable and light. Never had any issues with these reels. I keep them maintained and they never fail. Wouldn't have anything else on my deck.
I have used this reel for a year or more now. And I am asctually looking at purchasing a second one. When I first used it I did experience some difficulties trying to make 40 to 50 yard cast. Then I took the time to work with the magnets, and the breaking system. Once I got the reel tweaked up I feel in love. I used to hate baitcasters because they would backlash on me so much. But when I figured this reel out I couldnt put it down! Trust me, take the time to figure this reel out and get out ... there and have a blast!
They are all I wil use. I have caught many fish on the surf in all kinds of crazy weather. Not one problem.
I own 2 of the original battle reels so when the upgraded battle II came out what did I do? Yes! I bought 3 of them. Do I own other reels by other manufacturers? Absolutely, however I have been a Penn man my whole life. If you look at my extensive tackle collection you will see that over 50% of it is Penn products. Penn products are made to last. I Bought this reel to serve as a bait reel for both fresh and saltwater fishing. I like how it has sealed bearings so I don't have to worry about that when wading in the ocean. Obviously I try my best to not get the reel wet but hey "Stuff" happens. With all that said its a nice reel however it is on the heavier side weighing in at 12.8 oz.
I have owned several of these 209's and the 9m..109..mag 10 along with several spinning reels also made by Penn. I fish large lakes and especially rivers for catfish..carp..sturgeon and the like... They never fail me! Just purchased a new 209 and a spinning combo....my son loves them too!
I bought my original 209 and 309 about 40 years ago! Although I've added considerably more expensive reels to my arsenal since then, these are still my fallback reels. In fact, I use them regularly in both fresh and saltwater! These reels are indestructible and 100% reliable, 100% of the time. You can pay much, much more, but IMHO you won't find a better heavy-duty level-wind reel for the money.
After retiring from the Army, and getting back to good fishing waters, I needed to upgrade my 20 year old gear with some new stuff. My old Abu Garcia 6000 had been in my parents garage for 20 years, and looked a bit rough. I was looking at buying a C4 6600 for striper and catfish. I have always loved the power handles, so when I saw the C3's with the Striper and Catfish Specials, that grabbed me quickly. I bought a C3 Catfish first, mainly because the orange matched the rod I wanted it on ... better than the red. After I got it, the first day fishing with it, I was SOLD! I bought 2 more, another C3 Catfish, and a C3 Striper. The smoothness, the casting ability, it was spot on. Also, when you DO buy one of these, pick up the neoprene reel protectors. I have them on all my AG's now.
I have used Abu Garcia for years and they all have been durable and reliable. This on might be my favorite. My friend bought this reel and I was able to use it on a fishing trip. It is smooth and I did not have any backlash the whole trip. I cant wait to get one of my own. Good Fishing!!!
We have been in the Charter Business for 61 years always with Penn Reels!! The Penn Squall is a Great reel, smooth drag lighter than GTI 320 our Customers love it's look and feel! Great Job Penn. Coho Charters Since 1956.
I use these as every day light duty bottom fishing reels for my customers. They are perfect, and have even done well on some larger fish and sharks. Highly recommend this reel.
Best ultra light for the price. Great fun to fish with
Can't find a nicer tiny reel for $30. Nicer then the regular tiny 20.
This is a great reel and cast far. But if you can spare a few more dollars do yourself a favor and get the pro version. This comes with the knob/switch that lets you adjust the brake system a little better. This reel doesn't have that option, everything that needs to be adjusted needs to have the plate off first. But other then that good reel for the price!
awesome real cast very far I consistently use it all the time
My wife bought me one as a Christmas gift and it is as good or better than reels costing a lot more money, best bang for the buck in baitcasting reels. Extremely smooth, cast a mile and has a strong drag. If you're considering one you won't be disappointed.
For the price, the Lew's reel is a great panfish reel!!
The Zebco 33 Max is "The Answer" to large line fishing with a closed face reel. 20 pound test line is PERFECT for large bass and catfish. Great power is also achieved with this larger reel.
Great reel, has handled everything I've thrown at it so far.
This reel is a tough versatile reel. I use it fishing in salt water to cast soft plastics for Speckled Trout. It casts and retrieves smoothly. It has enough backbone to deal with those Trout. I suggest that the red Cajun line be replaced with a better quality line for salt water use. This reel will perform very well in fresh water as well. Overall, it's a great reel for the money.
I bought this reel about a year ago & it has been great!!! It is a very smooth reel for pond/small lake fishing. Fun to catch brim & bass...
This reel replaced two spin cast reels. One lite and one ultra lite. With 6lb line on all three and 1/8oz and 1/4oz jigs I get longer smoother casts with the bait cast reel. It has all the features of the large round casting reels I use. This is a big plus. This reel was the best choice for me for crappie fishing. If anyone is interested in a casting reel for crappie fishing they should check this reel out.
These reels are great reels. Nothing flashy on them, other than the gold color. Simple no frills workhorse. These reels will last for years. They are very durable. Buy one and you will be pleased.
This is a solid reel. Great design with a small footprint that makes casting it all day a dream. One of my buddies owns five of these and was nice enough to let me demo one of them. I've been casting top of the line Ardent, Daiwa and Ambassadeur for years...this reel is as good or better (especially when it comes to durability) than any I've owned. I am incredibly pleased with my purchase.
I have had this reel for 10 years, never a hiccup. In some cases you really do get what you pay for.
This Lew's reel is built to throw big baits! I throw swimbaits with this reel. Excellent reel when combo with the right right.
I purchased a right hand and left hand for two to three day trips so I can switch hand and not burn out. I love these reels and have landed 35 lb yellow-fin tuna, 40 lb deep water yellow tail, and 10+ lb ling cod. The squall is easy to cast and adjusting the drag is a cinch. The over sized handle and knob make even larger fish more manageable. I would recommend the squall lever drag to any angler that likes conventional reels, you will not be disappointed. I was skeptical at first with the lack of level wind and the affordable price, thought it was too good to be true. This reel has a long handle providing the power and ease of use of much larger sized competitors. Great match with braided line, and strike force extension of lever drag provides the strength and power to pull in much larger fish than much larger reels. Very smooth winding making it obvious the mechanical hardware quality. Holds up well in saltwater, have had no issues whatsoever ... with this reel. Maintenance has not been necessary after two years of heavy use in rough conditions. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
i bout it a month ago and i can say its the best one so far
