I have been useing c3 c4 and record reels for over 30 years. They are great durable and depedable reels . Very well built and the best part for me is the line guide moving when you cast, you get better and longer casts and better line lay. They work great with either mono or braid. And the 4601 is a great crank bait reel the perfect gear ratio for crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I use them for bass, pike, catfish , muskie and have never had a problem with them. I tried a revo sx and ... didn't like it at all its going on craigs list can cast just as far with my c3 4601 or my c4 4601 and 5601.
These reels are legendary for a reason. Smooth, strong, and with a little maintenance will last a lifetime. I have caught numerous Musky, and catfish with my two reels. I don't have alot of money to buy different reels for every species I fish for and these share duties between musky, catfish, and bass. For years past and years to come these are easily the best bang for your buck reels on the market. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I Love the Abu round reels. When I say I love them, you have to understand the context of that statement, you see, Im 50 yrs. old, and my first Abu, a 5000, was given to me by my grandpa when I was home from the Army on leave....in 1987. Since then, Ive collected over 2 dozen of them, from the smaller bass fishing size of a 4500 to the big game sized 10000. I have caught nearly every fish there is on the Gulf Coast with a Abu Garcia. Whether it was speckeled trout, flounder, redfish, snook, ... pompano, kingfish, cobia, a dozen types of snapper....the Abu round reels just kill em' !! And the reels are tough, last forever, and are dead simple to care for. Abus Service is also the tops!! Ive ordered parts for reels that were 20 years old....never a problem, just fantastic service. I believe what I like most about the reels, is that they are made with real craftsmanship. The beauty of Abu round reels is their simplicity, their strength comes from uncomplicated designs, and materials that stand the test of time. Because the reels are so well built, so easy to maintain, made of quality materials, Im looking forward to being able to hand these down to my son and daughter. Thats why I say......ABU GARCIA......For Life!!
For much of the year I target catfish. Everything from eater size channel cats to trophy flatheads, and without a doubt, the best reel for my particular fishing style is the Abu Garcia 6500C3. I own several 6500C3's and have never had a problem with any of my reels. They are very easy to clean, maintain, lubricate, and operate. They will quite literally last a lifetime, and I will be proud to hand them down to my son when its time. The reels look good and feel good in your hand. They consistently ... operate smoothly with no worries of loosing a trophy because of reel malfunction. The drag operates smoothly throughout its range and I feel that the IAR bearing is an improvement over the older style AR dog. I cant say enough about the Ambassadeur line of reels and the 6500C3 is a jewel. I would and have recommended this reel to family and friends. The simple but elegant and efficient design is well worth the price.
I use Penn Conflict and Penn Battle II Spinning reels for all my inshore tournament fishing. When it comes to the Penn Battle II reel, you will not purchase a better reel for the price point this reel is offered. Simply a reliable work horse reel.
I own 2 of the original battle reels so when the upgraded battle II came out what did I do? Yes! I bought 3 of them. Do I own other reels by other manufacturers? Absolutely, however I have been a Penn man my whole life. If you look at my extensive tackle collection you will see that over 50% of it is Penn products. Penn products are made to last. i bought this reel right when they came out so probably 2-3 years i have never serviced it and i have beat it up pretty badly, its been dunked in the surf, dragged through the sand, dropped and i dont know what else, it is scratched,it is dinged up, and all i ever do is rinse it with fresh water when i get home and grease the shaft once in a great while. i have caught many many fish with this reel including big yellow tail and some huge 20 pound plus ling cod and this reel is still smooth as ... butter and i would definitely reccomend it to anyone!
I bought 2 conflict 5000's about 2 months ago, been surf fishing the inlet with them. Landed a couple big fish and a lot of small fish. Both still work as they should but both reels have knocks in them while reeling and one of the bails isn't closing properly. Both have been cleaned after every use. Wouldn't purchase another.
Had it for 2 years teamed up with a vengeance rod. Can't even begin to say how many fish I have caught with it! Good price good quality! Can't get much better than that
I had tried several budget baitcaster reels from other company's and could not learn to use them. Continuously frustrated with backlashes, I sold the ones I had and swore to never use them again. After being urged by a friend to just try a few casts with his upper end baitcaster, I decided to give it another try. Still looking for a budget baitcaster, I went with the Abu Garcia Pro Max. WOW!!!! I have to admit I will never leave the baitcaster again. These reels are amazingly smooth and easy to ... cast with light or heavy baits. I have since bought two more and couldn't be happier!!
I have owned several of these 209's and the 9m..109..mag 10 along with several spinning reels also made by Penn. I fish large lakes and especially rivers for catfish..carp..sturgeon and the like... They never fail me! Just purchased a new 209 and a spinning combo....my son loves them too!
we've been using Penn since 1960. A little cleaning every couple of years along with some lubrication and they are smooth as silk. Own model 9's both right and left hand model 109's 209's 309's several are on their 4 th boat. The Best Investment That I've ever made.
This reel is awesome, cast great, and very well made .
I bought this reel with no real expectations of greatness. I was wrong. I would say it's a great reel for the money but it's really a great reel regardless of price. It has a drag you'd never expect at this price. I'll be buying many more.
have tried other reels but for the price you can't beat it hands down well worth giving it a shot [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The first fish I hooked I didn't have the drag tight enoung. The reel backspooled loosing the knob, reel came apart and fell in the water Lucky for me it was shallow and I retrieved it. Make sure the assembly knob and the drag are tight. After getting it set up correctly it has been a great reel.
I bought two of these to try on some ice fishing poles. So far they work good, just have to loosen the drag and hand strip the line down the hole. they are VERY smooth reels!
I bought one of these reel just to try and all I can say is wow! Now I wished I haven't tried them because it has hurt my wallet! But now all my bait casters are the MGL! I have 7 of these and the other are spinning reels which I use the ci4+ ! If you want the best bait caster on the planet get this reel and I also have the DC version also!
I have had reels in the same price category from several other companies in the industry. This blows the competition out of the water! Performs just as well as the $200+ reels that I own!
Great value for the price. Super light weight and comfortable fishing all day. Drag is strong for bass fishing and brakes are easily adjustable for no backlash. 3 year warranty is the best out there too
This reel is the backbone of the Penn all purpose saltwater line in my opinion. Quality build, easy to service and repair. Smooth drag and indestructible. Have had mine, (2 of them), for over 15 years and are still as reliable today as the day I bought them. Use them for trolling, kingfish, dolphin, sailfish and grouper as well as conventional bottom fishing for grouper, black bass, grunts, snappers and the "reef donkey" amberjacks. Highly recommend these reels if you want a reliable, all ... purpose reel that you can depend on for years to come. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I use this on the beach and pier. I kayak my baits out because you cant cast this its to big. I have on it 500yds of 100lb powerpro and top off with maybe 200-250+yds of 80lb mono. I reel in lots of fish like big jacks, blacktips, big black drums, med size hammerheads, sand bars, bull reds, and list goes on. Great reel for big game surf fishing. Only problem I have with this reel is that its a single speed gear. And its slow. Not like the lever drag with 2 gear ratios. I say that because here in ... Texas seaweed can get real bad sometimes. And this reel will wear you out reeling in all that and over the sand bars. Unlike lever drag 2 gear ratio reels I can switch from high to low doing that. That my only con. Other than that its work out great for 5 seasons strong.
the best 100 dollar reel on the market. I use it for pitching and flipping and it works great. Highly recommended product.
This reel replaced an Abu Garcia black max and it is a world of difference. very smooth and casts very far and very accurately. It also has good drag settings, thought I was disappointed to find that it had a plastic star drag. very nice pain on the reel and I like the internal breaking system
Purchased several weeks ago and glad I did. I have purchased an arsenal of bait casters (28) since I returned to fishing in the past five years, all in the mid range price catagory and this one tops them all. Easiest to set up and the absolute best caster of all. I have not had one over-run, even casting into the wind. It is very smooth and quite. This is the first bait casting reel I have that I was able to cast 1/8 oz lures a great distance, unbelievable. This is a great reel, you need to ... purchase this one and experience the difference. OBTW, this is my 8th Lew's and they are all good.
I love this reel plan on getting some more of them.
Abu Garcia period is the best reels I've ever used won't own anything else
I bought four of these reels over a couple year span in the late 90's. These are by far the only reels that have stood the test of time! I use them for tight-lining for crappie, white bass, sauger, but mainly for catfish. I have landed several over 20 lbs and a couple in the 50 lb range. Thanks so much for producing such great reels! sincerely, Trae Miller [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I own a couple dozen of these reels for both leadcore set-ups as well as for monofilament trolling set-ups. The drag system, the levelwind, and the overall reel performance is second to none.
Bought two last year for test run and they proformed flawlessly. From pulling cranks for walleyes to holding ten colors of lead for king salmon it counted and cranked them in. So I got 7 more for this summers trips
This was the best experience I've had right from the people at Zebco to the 15 reels I purchased. We purchased the 404 reels for our jakes day event where we had close to 60 youth fishing from 9:00am to 2:00 pm. The reels were great, helped to make this event a true success!!
7 lb drum, 15 lb flathead catfish, multiple largemouth, no problems...for the price a fantastic reel. Reminds me of the zebco Spincast reels I grew up with.
I have bought 3 of these reels to put on crappie rods. Very smooth and looks great. If you want a very good spinning reel then this is one you should consider.
worst store I've been in yet, doubt I ever go back
