I put this reel throw the test, with 65lb spiderwire and hold on, it will move your feet if drag is tight , with 35lbs lock down
I've been using penn reels my entire life. Using them inshore, from the surf, and in the ocean. They are extremely corrosion resistant and are sealed pretty well. My only complaint is that water can get into the drag and other components at times. Fortunately they are very easy to service at home. All of the features are great and the new model handles braid very well. Can't beat this reels reliability in saltwater for the price! Will continue to buy these reels for my boat. I have been useing c3 c4 and record reels for over 30 years. They are great durable and depedable reels . Very well built and the best part for me is the line guide moving when you cast, you get better and longer casts and better line lay. They work great with either mono or braid. And the 4601 is a great crank bait reel the perfect gear ratio for crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I use them for bass, pike, catfish , muskie and have never had a problem with them. I tried a revo sx and ... didn't like it at all its going on craigs list can cast just as far with my c3 4601 or my c4 4601 and 5601.
I have had this reel for at least a 15 years. I do maintain all of my reels myself and the are disassembled, cleaned & inspected every year the, n lubed....but the endurance of my ABU Garcia baitcasting reels is remarkable. Nothing else comes close in y experience....and a few of these reels have seen salt water usage but are immediately disassembled, cleaned & lubed. I fish primarily for bass......and prefer a round reel for heavy duty fishing...be it jigging, flipping, heavy worming etc...... ... I also love the line capacity of the larger round reels. To anyone considering purchasing a reel, I highly recommend ABU Garcia! I only wish I could afford the top line REVO reels and such....being disabled sucks. I use Penn Conflict and Penn Battle II Spinning reels for all my inshore tournament fishing. When it comes to the Penn Battle II reel, you will not purchase a better reel for the price point this reel is offered. Simply a reliable work horse reel.
I own 2 of the original battle reels so when the upgraded battle II came out what did I do? Yes! I bought 3 of them. Do I own other reels by other manufacturers? Absolutely, however I have been a Penn man my whole life. If you look at my extensive tackle collection you will see that over 50% of it is Penn products. Penn products are made to last. I Bought this reel to serve as a bait reel for both fresh and saltwater fishing. I like how it has sealed bearings so I don't have to worry about that when wading in the ocean. Obviously I try my best to not get the reel wet but hey "Stuff" happens. With all that said its a nice reel however it is on the heavier side weighing in at 12.8 oz.
accidentally lost rod/reel in lake- retrieved it after 2 days on the bottom and it still works like a boss. It did need a little cleaning and grease though. Caught my all time best largemouth (8lbs) on it last summer too. Tried and true reels, my dad still uses two ambassadeurs that are over 40 years old and doesn't miss a beat. You can't go wrong with an ambassadeur!
I bought the left hand version #5601, since I'm right-handed, so I can simply cast with My right, as I would with a spinning rod/reel, and use My left hand for the retrieve. It's tough to find a high quality casting reel offering a left handed version, and ABU takes top honors with their superb round casting reels with left or right handed options. I've owned a few ABU reels prior to the recent purchase of My 5601, and one of those I bought during Summer of 1973. Availability of simple repair ... parts has kept all of My ABU reels in service to this day, though I only fish occasionally anymore, due to My advancing age. Many Thanks to ABU for crafting such fine and long-lasting fishing reels! ~DLK~
This reel out performs many higher end reels that are much more expensive. It has plenty of torque, it casts like a dream, and the bent handles provide maximum comfort. The reel is incredible, but the only complaint that I have (and the reason that I gave it 4 stars rather than 5) is that it isn't available in higher gear ratios. A 5.4:1 may be great to some people, but it is a little too slow for me, even with cranking. My advice is that if you know that you are comfortable with a 5.4:1, ... definitely purchase this reel as it is fantastic in every other aspect. However, if you are used to fishing reels in the 6-7 gear ratio range, be prepared for a much slower retrieval. I wish Abu would make them in higher gear ratios. If they had this same reel available in a 6.4:1 or a 7.1:1, I would buy several more of them.
I bought this a little while ago and straight out of the package, I could tell that it was constructed like a much pricier reel. It's extended handles and high-end knobs make it extremely comfortable to crank. It's casting ability is ridiculous. I tied on a lipless crankbait and this thing absolutely flies. Thankfully, it has an awesome line capacity too. It almost never backlashes. In these regards, this reel is absolutely ideal for cranking. My only complaint is that it just isnt fast enough ... for me. I had read online that a 5.4:1 is a good ratio for cranking, but for me....it's just sooooo dang slow. If you know that you are comfortable with a 5.4:1, go for it! Personally, I would love it if they made it in a 6.4:1 or a 7.2:1. All in all, great job, Abu Garcia!

I needed another reel and the specs on this one look good, great reel to use.
This reel has done wonders for me I bought it and have hauled some huge fish with it it's a work horse I highly recommend it!
Bought this reel a few weeks ago and put it on a 3' ice fishing rod for my daughter who is 2 1/2. Very pleased with this reel, casts smooth, light weight and easy to use. She loves it.
I bought this reel for trout fishing. It is excellent!!
Bought this Reel and never looked back. Bail flips smooth and no back up, when you stop. As good as I have ever owned, and I have had them all. Love the Max 4 Camo - and on the right rod - it's a killer.
I have been fishing the Gulf coast for over 20 years and this is by far the best reel I have ever used. It casts great, has an awesome drag system, and as smooth as butter on warm toast. The quality of this reel is way above the other highend saltwater baitcasters.
I bought this reel a couple of weeks ago and have fished with it exclusively and this reel has held up great. I love the Concept reels and they are my go to reels.
I use to only buy Quantum PT reels but decided to try these reels after buying my boys some Lew's reels. The Lew's reels held up to teenage boys I've been using Lew's reels for 2 years now and am totally happy with the performance and durability.

My TLD is my favorite reel for fishing anywhere for anything offshore.
I've been an inshore fresh and salt water angler for 20+ yrs now and this has been one of the best reels for both waters that I've owned. I currently have 4 of these reels and it gets the nickname "The Tractor" because it doesn't matter what fish is on the end whether it be a 2-3lb bass or a 10-15lb red, its going to keep pulling until that fish is landed. This is one of the rare situations where you get a lot more reel than than what the price tag shows.
I bought this a week ago and you will never find any baitcaster as good as this Calcutta. The reel is comfortably smooth like butter. The detailed components to mechanics are incredibly sturdy to take a good beaten! I highly recommend this reel for the fisherman enthusiasts aficionado.
This reel casts a mile and retrieves very smoothly. I love the grip on the handle. My wife has already tried to lay claim to this one so I'll be buying her one soon
I bought this reel last Friday and took it to the bay the next day and I love this reel!! I adjusted the braking system the way the manual said by weight and it cast perfect and I don't even have to use my thumb at the end of the cast! It's very smooth and has very nice clicking drag star and clicking spool tension knob for fine adjustments. It was a very windy day and I had no problems casting into the wind after following the manual. I will be buying another one soon. This now my go to bait casting reel.
Very good buying experience and happy with purchase
