I've been using penn reels my entire life. Using them inshore, from the surf, and in the ocean. They are extremely corrosion resistant and are sealed pretty well. My only complaint is that water can get into the drag and other components at times. Fortunately they are very easy to service at home. All of the features are great and the new model handles braid very well. Can't beat this reels reliability in saltwater for the price! Will continue to buy these reels for my boat. Have only used once since I just recently got it, but all the reviews were spot on
I have been useing c3 c4 and record reels for over 30 years. They are great durable and depedable reels . Very well built and the best part for me is the line guide moving when you cast, you get better and longer casts and better line lay. They work great with either mono or braid. And the 4601 is a great crank bait reel the perfect gear ratio for crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I use them for bass, pike, catfish , muskie and have never had a problem with them. I tried a revo sx and ... didn't like it at all its going on craigs list can cast just as far with my c3 4601 or my c4 4601 and 5601.
I got my first 5500C in 1977 for my 15th birthday, and it still works perfect. With my recent purchase, I now own 11 of these reels.(I take care of my reels and they take care of me.) Best round reel money can buy !!!
I Love the Abu round reels. When I say I love them, you have to understand the context of that statement, you see, Im 50 yrs. old, and my first Abu, a 5000, was given to me by my grandpa when I was home from the Army on leave....in 1987. Since then, Ive collected over 2 dozen of them, from the smaller bass fishing size of a 4500 to the big game sized 10000. I have caught nearly every fish there is on the Gulf Coast with a Abu Garcia. Whether it was speckeled trout, flounder, redfish, snook, ... pompano, kingfish, cobia, a dozen types of snapper....the Abu round reels just kill em' !! And the reels are tough, last forever, and are dead simple to care for. Abus Service is also the tops!! Ive ordered parts for reels that were 20 years old....never a problem, just fantastic service. I believe what I like most about the reels, is that they are made with real craftsmanship. The beauty of Abu round reels is their simplicity, their strength comes from uncomplicated designs, and materials that stand the test of time. Because the reels are so well built, so easy to maintain, made of quality materials, Im looking forward to being able to hand these down to my son and daughter. Thats why I say......ABU GARCIA......For Life!!
I purchased my first reel about 25 years ago and it works as well today as my newer ones. I use my reels for multi species in freshwater and have even used them in saltwater. Stripers, Largemouth, Redfish, and Catfish. Fish up to and including 70# cats! Tuff durable long lasting reels. Keep them clean and lubed and they will last a lifetime. What a GREAT bargain!
I use Penn Conflict and Penn Battle II Spinning reels for all my inshore tournament fishing. When it comes to the Penn Battle II reel, you will not purchase a better reel for the price point this reel is offered. Simply a reliable work horse reel.
First started fishing when I was a kid with my dad and every reel we had were penn! Anyways I have a battle 1 4000 and a battle 2 3000! Great reels they last forever as long as you take care of them. A little Heavy most penns are still can cast all day. When is comes to spinning reels I'll never buy another brand. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
accidentally lost rod/reel in lake- retrieved it after 2 days on the bottom and it still works like a boss. It did need a little cleaning and grease though. Caught my all time best largemouth (8lbs) on it last summer too. Tried and true reels, my dad still uses two ambassadeurs that are over 40 years old and doesn't miss a beat. You can't go wrong with an ambassadeur!
Still have both 4600's & after having 1 lock up when button was depressed, I've had no other issues. I remove side plate & clean reels regularly when throwing crankbaits of 1/2 oz plus and use synthetic oil from BPS on all bearings. I've never had assy apart where handle & gears are attached. Ensuring that the level wind is clean & allows reel paw to travel freely. I fish year round appx 150-175 days a yr in central FL. Back of the boat anglers always comment about the distance I get with my ... casts. Reels are paired with Veritas 7' MH while throwing 12# Big Game. They're still going strong.
This is my 2nd Orra Winch. I liked the 1st one so much for crankbaits, I picked up this one for my small/medium swimbait rod. Plenty of torque, great line capacity, smooth drag. Highly recommended!!
I have several AG reels and this is by far the finest I own. I mainly throw swimbaits and cranks. This reel seriously powers thru the largest of them. This reel really reduces fatigue when throwing anything that displaces water. I wouldn't recommend it for anything you wanna fish fast. But, for my style of fishing, it's perfect and I look forward to owning several more soon. I also have to really "try" to get a backlash with his reel. If you throw medium to heavy baits(.5 to 3oz+), this is your reel.
We have been in the Charter Business for 61 years always with Penn Reels!! The Penn Squall is a Great reel, smooth drag lighter than GTI 320 our Customers love it's look and feel! Great Job Penn. Coho Charters Since 1956.
I bought my first Penn Squall reel about a year and a half ago. I now own six of them. I fish for stripers a couple of times a week. The Squall reels have brought in well over a hundred stripers at this point. They are smooth and powerful. I highly recommend the Squall.
I wanted a 2nd reel for surfishing. Could not tell by photo online how big it would be. I was shocked when I first got it but am very happy at the quality. I know I will be able to cast bait waaaaaay out. Can't get to the coast for 3 more weeks and can't wait to test this big dawg out! Holds 240 yds of 40 lb. test. May be too big for some of you know-it-alls but I'm going to have some fun for less than $40.
This reel a good starter reel if you to fish for catfish and gars in the river. Or saltwater fishing at the jetties, surf, or pier. I fish this reel all year round long and I haven't had a problem what so ever. Caught many fish like bull redfish, black drum, jacks, sting rays, and med size sharks. With proper care and spray Ardent salt guard after ever use this reel stays like champ. Don't get me wrong it feels cheap but at same time durable. And the drag can be a little jerky on big fish. But ... it gets them in all the time. I put it on a 10 foot Daiwa beef stick and reel has 25lb Berkley big game mono for easy casting. I you want to get into surf or land base fishing for big fish this reel will be a good buy for a beginner. I still have it as a back up. After fishing all year long and got into more saltwater fishing. I pick up my game and bought some better combos. Save your money and start off with this reel. Best choice I ever made.
Max power on dorados, kings, and tuna. Have 500yds of 65lb braid top with 80lb mono. Works wonders.
This reel is a tough versatile reel. I use it fishing in salt water to cast soft plastics for Speckled Trout. It casts and retrieves smoothly. It has enough backbone to deal with those Trout. I suggest that the red Cajun line be replaced with a better quality line for salt water use. This reel will perform very well in fresh water as well. Overall, it's a great reel for the money.
I bought this reel about a year ago & it has been great!!! It is a very smooth reel for pond/small lake fishing. Fun to catch brim & bass...
I needed another reel and the specs on this one look good, great reel to use.
This reel has done wonders for me I bought it and have hauled some huge fish with it it's a work horse I highly recommend it!
I have bought 3 of these reels to put on crappie rods. Very smooth and looks great. If you want a very good spinning reel then this is one you should consider.
I have several high dollar spinning reels but this one will stand up with the best. I have bought 3 so far would have bought more but the two Academy's ran out of the 100's. Buy one you wont be sorry!!!
I bought this reel for trout fishing. It is excellent!!
I bought this reel to take on my 1st Canadian Pike/Walleye fishing trip and I'm pleased that my Dad recommended it. This reel cast effortlessly and brought in my very 1st Pike. I was thrilled not to have to worry about my reel and only concentrate on landing the endless supply of monstrous fish. Thanks Pflueger!
This reel has all the bells & whistles. The braking system is flawless. It's engineered like reels that cost $300-$500. The brake pads flair out to slow the spool down to minimize backlashes & prevent over runs. I was a little overwhelmed when I removed the side plate & saw the blue brake pads. I tried to adjust them but they adjust themselves. I called the field rep & he spent 30 minutes explaining how to set the brakes given line size, lure weight & rod power. Really super nice folks at Lews. ... Set the brake dial at 5 & work your way up until the spool doesn't over run. Then you can cast it without using your thumb. No joke. It's an amazing reel. You can bomb light lures from long range or side arm frogs under trees.
This reel is amazing, especially since I got it for 109.99 from academy. Casts like a dream, minimal backlash, and even if there is a little backlash it is super easy to get out. I own 3 of these, two lews MB and a speed spool and I will buy nothing else but lews reels.
I bought this reel because i was looking for something to pitch my 1/4 oz jigs. This reel is amazing. Super smooth casting. The handle is a little big, but it makes cranking easier. I think this definitely lives up to the Zebco name.
I own several of these reels. Very smooth action and very dependable. They are better than other much more expensive reels that I have owned.
I received one of these reels as a gift, and immediately went out and bought another one of the best reels I've ever owned, it out cast and out performs many of my higher end reels.
I've been bass fishing my entire life and this reel outshines all the Shimanos, AbuGarcias, etc. that I own. Lew's outcasts the others and is the smoothest I've ever had. Yes, I had the opportunity to catch an 11 lb. 2 oz. on it and the drag worked flawlessly. If you want a great reel for a reasonable price, I strongly suggest this reel. I also love the contoured non-slip handle it comes with. I'll be buying another one soon.
I bought this a month ago and I am in love with this reel
I have used h2o mettle reels for years so this was not hard to go out on a limb to try. I build custom rods and am adamant about pushing for h2o reels
My wife bought me this for my birthday. I am very pleased. Smooth drag and smooth reel
