Just got this reel in the mail and I was very excited at first glance. Very good looking and smooth reel, but then I noticed the obnoxious amount of backplay the handle has. I'm not sure if I just got a defective one or what.
I can't say enough good things about this reel it's so smooth and light an absolute perfect combination for bass and pike fishing
I am a professional guide. I fish about 250 trips a year 2/3 are using the spinfisher reel. drags are excellent holds plenty of line and capable of catching anything that swims. I'm using Berkeley pro spec line excellent combination.
I've been using penn reels my entire life. Using them inshore, from the surf, and in the ocean. They are extremely corrosion resistant and are sealed pretty well. My only complaint is that water can get into the drag and other components at times. Fortunately they are very easy to service at home. All of the features are great and the new model handles braid very well. Can't beat this reels reliability in saltwater for the price! Will continue to buy these reels for my boat. I now own 4 of this reels and love all of them. Super easy to adjust and fine tune. This thing take a beating too, i have one on my frog rod and I've put it through a beating and back. Still as smooth as when i got it.
Bought the reel a couple weeks ago and have only used it once but already can tell it's my favorite of my revos so far!
I have been useing c3 c4 and record reels for over 30 years. They are great durable and depedable reels . Very well built and the best part for me is the line guide moving when you cast, you get better and longer casts and better line lay. They work great with either mono or braid. And the 4601 is a great crank bait reel the perfect gear ratio for crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I use them for bass, pike, catfish , muskie and have never had a problem with them. I tried a revo sx and ... didn't like it at all its going on craigs list can cast just as far with my c3 4601 or my c4 4601 and 5601.
These reels are legendary for a reason. Smooth, strong, and with a little maintenance will last a lifetime. I have caught numerous Musky, and catfish with my two reels. I don't have alot of money to buy different reels for every species I fish for and these share duties between musky, catfish, and bass. For years past and years to come these are easily the best bang for your buck reels on the market. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
These reels are smooth casting and easily adjusted. The new cast controls on the Gen 3 reels makes these the easiest reels to fine tune without magnetic cast controls.
If I could take 65lb braid, tie it around the world (using a polymar knot of course) and choose one reel to bring in ole girl!? Man, it would be this reel. A true blessing, an all around work horse. I'll never use another brand. Give yourself a round of applause.
accidentally lost rod/reel in lake- retrieved it after 2 days on the bottom and it still works like a boss. It did need a little cleaning and grease though. Caught my all time best largemouth (8lbs) on it last summer too. Tried and true reels, my dad still uses two ambassadeurs that are over 40 years old and doesn't miss a beat. You can't go wrong with an ambassadeur!
Still have both 4600's & after having 1 lock up when button was depressed, I've had no other issues. I remove side plate & clean reels regularly when throwing crankbaits of 1/2 oz plus and use synthetic oil from BPS on all bearings. I've never had assy apart where handle & gears are attached. Ensuring that the level wind is clean & allows reel paw to travel freely. I fish year round appx 150-175 days a yr in central FL. Back of the boat anglers always comment about the distance I get with my ... casts. Reels are paired with Veritas 7' MH while throwing 12# Big Game. They're still going strong.
I own 2 black max and they do not have this switch but you cannot beat the black or these reels for there price, but i must say i like this reel more because of this switch .one more for the max.fished this brand my whole life, even my dad and he was born in 1914
Bought this one month ago. Have not used to fish with, but have practiced casting. I am rookie and the reel cast perfectly every time. Bought a competitors reel at the same time, no comparison, spent most of my time untangling backlash.
I bought this about three weeks ago and has have some heavy use since bought. This thing is amazing for the price. It cranks fast and casts a country mile. Backlashes are unknown with this thing, its amazing.
super smooth, feels good in the hand, and has a super amazing price!
the best 100 dollar reel on the market. I use it for pitching and flipping and it works great. Highly recommended product.
This reel replaced an Abu Garcia black max and it is a world of difference. very smooth and casts very far and very accurately. It also has good drag settings, thought I was disappointed to find that it had a plastic star drag. very nice pain on the reel and I like the internal breaking system
I went into Academy today to purchase a Lews Speed Spool LFS. The local Academy didn't have it in a left hand retrieve but did have a Lews Laser MG in a lefty version, so I thought that I would try it (and save 20 bucks). What a sweet little reel. I haven't fished it yet but I mounted it to a Tournament Choice Classic Edition 6' rod (another Academy product) and set up the reel after spooling it with 12 pound. I can sit at my computer and flip it into the shower (about 12' away) and get a feel ... for the action and it is sweet. I am right handed but like left hand retrieve. It doesn't make sense to me to cast and change to my left to retrieve with my right.
this is an amazing reel lews has really stepped up there game.
I use it like a Crappie Reel. Flawless preferences. Weights heaver but can be handled. I like it, cheap and well made. It helped me catch these! See ya in the Creeks!
Two things I really like about this reel is the rear drag and the casting lever. the cast button lever makes it easy to cast by opening the bail and holding the line against the lever with your index finger, the rear drag is easy to reach for any adjustments needed.
Smooth Casting , great action and feel from reel ,love the adjustable drag, great option of the bail wire mechanism, or like I call it a gun slinger grip, it release the spool quick and smooth, great name in fishing and great value.
I bought one of these reel just to try and all I can say is wow! Now I wished I haven't tried them because it has hurt my wallet! But now all my bait casters are the MGL! I have 7 of these and the other are spinning reels which I use the ci4+ ! If you want the best bait caster on the planet get this reel and I also have the DC version also!
Wouldn't go deep dropping without it! It pulls ever thing up no matter how big!
The finish to this reel is very nice. I am yet to use the reel, but have it strung for saltwater popping cork. I am excited to use it in a few weeks. The reel holds plenty of 30# braid. Worth the price and for a great cause.
I've owned Lew's reels in the past....this one lives up to the Lew's quality I've come to know....
Bought this reel Monday, used is Tuesday on Lake Monticello throwing weightless Flukes. Cast perfect and smooth, no back lashes unlike the Johnny Morris reels I use and paid more money for. I'll be going back to purchase 4 more to complete my arsonal.
I bought this reel because i was looking for something to pitch my 1/4 oz jigs. This reel is amazing. Super smooth casting. The handle is a little big, but it makes cranking easier. I think this definitely lives up to the Zebco name.
Originally I bought three Nascis and had problems with the internal gears making noises.Replaced with Stradics and they are worth the extra money. You can't go wrong with this reel.
I have been using my Stradic 4000 fishing from a sit-a-top kayak. It has often been splashed and has been dipped in saltwater several times. I do clean it often and it still works as good as new. Caught a 42 inch Redfish that it handled easily. The reel is smooth, strong and works very well with 20 lb. braid. If it ever needs to be replaced, I will get another Stradic.
