Being new to bait casting I spent quite a bit of time researching a number of different reels before deciding on this one. So glad I did as it was very easy to set up and use after some backyard practice. Watching a number of how to videos on YouTube was very helpful and I highly recommend newbys to do so
Abu STX is my go to reels. Very durable and light. Never had any issues with these reels. I keep them maintained and they never fail. Wouldn't have anything else on my deck.
A friend of mine let me use one of these reels and it didn't take me long to figure out that I was in need of an update to my gear. I purchased a couple of these reels and was in business the only problem was once you use these reels your not going to use your old favorites.these reels are so light and smooth it isn't a workout to tourney fish anymore. These reels allow you to stay in touch with your baits witch in turn puts more fish in the boat. All I can say is less fatigue more fish in the ... boat. Thanks for keeping me in the game.
I actually have 2 of the "stx" model revo reels, and use each for a constant action lure. One is used for a rattle-bait, used for ripping this bait through the edge of millfoil, and with great results. The second is used for a single Colorado blade spinner-bait, and also a very smooth, sensitive reel and retrieve. I currently have about nine different models of the revo style reels, and the stx seems to be my favorite. My last revo purchase was for the revo sx-hs reel, and it is well suited for ... speed bait, and also, very smooth. Overall, I haven't had any issues with any of the revo reels that I have , and have been using them for about 4 years to date. Thanks again, Abu Garcia, for making another great line of quality fishing reels, hard to beat!!
I have been useing c3 c4 and record reels for over 30 years. They are great durable and depedable reels . Very well built and the best part for me is the line guide moving when you cast, you get better and longer casts and better line lay. They work great with either mono or braid. And the 4601 is a great crank bait reel the perfect gear ratio for crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I use them for bass, pike, catfish , muskie and have never had a problem with them. I tried a revo sx and ... didn't like it at all its going on craigs list can cast just as far with my c3 4601 or my c4 4601 and 5601.
These reels are legendary for a reason. Smooth, strong, and with a little maintenance will last a lifetime. I have caught numerous Musky, and catfish with my two reels. I don't have alot of money to buy different reels for every species I fish for and these share duties between musky, catfish, and bass. For years past and years to come these are easily the best bang for your buck reels on the market. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
This reel out performs many higher end reels that are much more expensive. It has plenty of torque, it casts like a dream, and the bent handles provide maximum comfort. The reel is incredible, but the only complaint that I have (and the reason that I gave it 4 stars rather than 5) is that it isn't available in higher gear ratios. A 5.4:1 may be great to some people, but it is a little too slow for me, even with cranking. My advice is that if you know that you are comfortable with a 5.4:1, ... definitely purchase this reel as it is fantastic in every other aspect. However, if you are used to fishing reels in the 6-7 gear ratio range, be prepared for a much slower retrieval. I wish Abu would make them in higher gear ratios. If they had this same reel available in a 6.4:1 or a 7.1:1, I would buy several more of them.
Has all the features you need to throw deep crank baits. Get yourself one you won't be disappointed.
I bought four of these reels over a couple year span in the late 90's. These are by far the only reels that have stood the test of time! I use them for tight-lining for crappie, white bass, sauger, but mainly for catfish. I have landed several over 20 lbs and a couple in the 50 lb range. Thanks so much for producing such great reels! sincerely, Trae Miller [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I have owned many Ambassadeur reels. My latest purchases have been 6501 Classic C-3's. I have found theses reels to be very reliable. Their ease of operation and rugged construction have resulted in me landing many salmon and steelhead. I will definitely purchase Abu Garcia reels in the future and have no problem rev commending them to others.
I've lived on the west coast for over 40 years. It didn't take me long to realizehow much more effective casting reels were to spin. I've fished hard over these many years using many of the great Ambassadeur reels. We fish primarily steelhead and salmon. I've never had one minor thing go wrong with these reels, they are indestructible. One year landing a 63 lb. Chinook, piece of cake. I'm getting too old to do much fishing now but love those reels that I always have 8-10 on hand. Garcia ... Ambassadeur are a proud compliment to the fishing industry.
For the money, you can't beet these reels. These reels perform equal to several higher priced reels on the market. I have used the Alphamar's for two seasons and over 250 fishing trips and they still look and perform like the day I got them. Awesome reels!
Bought this Reel and never looked back. Bail flips smooth and no back up, when you stop. As good as I have ever owned, and I have had them all. Love the Max 4 Camo - and on the right rod - it's a killer.
I have bought 3 of these reels to put on crappie rods. Very smooth and looks great. If you want a very good spinning reel then this is one you should consider.
worst store I've been in yet, doubt I ever go back
The Zebco 33 Max is "The Answer" to large line fishing with a closed face reel. 20 pound test line is PERFECT for large bass and catfish. Great power is also achieved with this larger reel.
Great reel, has handled everything I've thrown at it so far.
This is what I have been looking for and at a good price.
Shimano makes the best reels. Caught my 78" tarpon with this reel. The drag is so smooth and powerful. You could never go wrong with this reel.
I’m exstreamly satistifed with this reel, so satisfied I’m going to purshase my second one.
I bought this reel a couple months ago I have used it a lot and have probably caught around 120 bass on it already. it casts REEL smooth and works great. backlashes are extremely rare and it is a good reel if you want something nice but dont have $200 to blow on a casting reel.
Bought two of these about 3 yrs ago, both are amazing. Extremely dependable and give you convidence bringing in your big catch, easily brings in huge drum one after another, gives bull reds no chance to run, ive dropped in saltwater(accidently) and not one problem, and casting these feel really good, and smooth.I will be buying two more this spring.
I really like this reel a lot. It really slings those bait out there and is very smooth retrieving. I may start using H2O reel for all my rods. They seem to be a great value also.
I bought this reel with no real expectations of greatness. I was wrong. I would say it's a great reel for the money but it's really a great reel regardless of price. It has a drag you'd never expect at this price. I'll be buying many more.
KEEP THEM THIS TIME......PLEASE. YES, THIS IS JUST THE OLE ARSENAL ARG15. THAT WENT AWAY AND THEN REELS TOO BIG CAME INTO PLAY, LIKE THOSE HUGE TIDEWATERS. TRY KEEPING A REEL STYLE AND SIZE FOR AWHILE, WILL YA???? THESE ARE EZ TO USE, THE RIGHT SIZE, SPOOLED W/ BRAID, IF YOU'RE CATCHING A FISH THAT BURNS OFF 350 YARDS OF 40 POUND BRAID........YOU NEED A DIFFERENT REEL ANYHOW!!!!!!!!!!! I USE THESE FOR REDFISH AND SPECKLED TROUT FOR MY CHARTER CUSTOMERS, THEY ARE AFFORDABLE AND NON-CORROSIVE, ... WHEN USED DAY AFTER DAY. STICK WITH THIS REEL, DONT DISCONTINUE THEM IN A YEAR. MATCHED WITH A NEW AND IMPROVED UGLY STIK STRIPER OR CATFISH ROD. YOU HAVE A WINNING COMBO.
This reel casts a mile and retrieves very smoothly. I love the grip on the handle. My wife has already tried to lay claim to this one so I'll be buying her one soon
I've been bass fishing my entire life and this reel outshines all the Shimanos, AbuGarcias, etc. that I own. Lew's outcasts the others and is the smoothest I've ever had. Yes, I had the opportunity to catch an 11 lb. 2 oz. on it and the drag worked flawlessly. If you want a great reel for a reasonable price, I strongly suggest this reel. I also love the contoured non-slip handle it comes with. I'll be buying another one soon.
I purchased the combo. Hands down beats my wifes high dollar reels from BPS. Almost too smooth on cast and retrieve. I don't have to hold my thumb on the spool at all, but still do sometimes- old habits! Have barely adjusted it from 3/4 oz texas rig with 10 inch worm to weightless senko to 3/4 spinners!! I'm buying several more before they quit making em!!!
I've been an inshore fresh and salt water angler for 20+ yrs now and this has been one of the best reels for both waters that I've owned. I currently have 4 of these reels and it gets the nickname "The Tractor" because it doesn't matter what fish is on the end whether it be a 2-3lb bass or a 10-15lb red, its going to keep pulling until that fish is landed. This is one of the rare situations where you get a lot more reel than than what the price tag shows.
This is a really nice reel. It is easy to throw and smooth in operation. It is a little pricey but well worth the money.
