I've been using penn reels my entire life. Using them inshore, from the surf, and in the ocean. They are extremely corrosion resistant and are sealed pretty well. My only complaint is that water can get into the drag and other components at times. Fortunately they are very easy to service at home. All of the features are great and the new model handles braid very well. Can't beat this reels reliability in saltwater for the price! Will continue to buy these reels for my boat. I have the 6500 and I love it so far. It cast really far on my 6 foot rod and handled a 5 foot gar with ease.
I have 3 ABU Reels, But this is my favorie, I handles Cobia which is my test of a good reel, I fish NC Offshore waters and own 36 Outfits, I Hesitated to buy this reel because of the affordable price, but boy was I surprised, don't hesitate to buy, I spooled mine with 20lb mono and I would fell comfortable fighting any saltwater fish I know of, 50 yrs on the water and I Love this reel.
I have been using a set of these reels for years now with zero issues. I use them primarily for bass fishing, but they have seen some light saltwater fishing usage as well. I always maintain them by disassembling them and lubing them anytime they are submerged and at least once a season. They hold ample amount of heavy braid and have a solid, consistent drag. They are easy to cast and almost indestructible. I can not recommend any reel any higher than these, and I have been an avid fisherman for ... over 30 years seeing the water over 100x per year.
I have been useing c3 c4 and record reels for over 30 years. They are great durable and depedable reels . Very well built and the best part for me is the line guide moving when you cast, you get better and longer casts and better line lay. They work great with either mono or braid. And the 4601 is a great crank bait reel the perfect gear ratio for crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I use them for bass, pike, catfish , muskie and have never had a problem with them. I tried a revo sx and ... didn't like it at all its going on craigs list can cast just as far with my c3 4601 or my c4 4601 and 5601.
i have 2 of these reel models for many many years. i have no problems with them at all. i use them at least 4-5 time a week with out failure. i have tried a lot of different brands and most have failed in one way or another. these are the best i have found and they have a very reasonable price to go with them. these are very high quality reels. i am hooked on these reels for sure. i have caught hundreds upon hundreds of fish on these reels and look forward to the next hundreds upon hundreds to ... be caught. thanks for a quality reel.
I have purchased and used baitcasting reels from about every manufacturer out there since 1976. Every time a manufacturer would come out with the "best, smoothest reeling or furthest casting" reel, I would have to get one. But once I really used the reels in tournament conditions day in a day out, I found out that there were big differences in quality and craftsmanship. I have yet to find a reel manufacturer that can even come close to the feel and finish of a Swedish made Abu Garcia ... Ambassaduer. I have sold all of my other low profile reels and have acquired eight 4600 C3 and CL3 reels. In my opinion, they are the best ever built, easy to service and the ones most sought after by serious fisherman and collectors. They will be around and in use long after the others are history!!
I have used these reel for years for saltwater inshore fishing and highly recommend them. I would like to see more info on the care and maintenance. I also would like to see an easy accessible oil and grease port on the reel.
These reels are smooth casting and easily adjusted. The new cast controls on the Gen 3 reels makes these the easiest reels to fine tune without magnetic cast controls.
I own two AG reels. Revo MGX and Revo S baitcast Reels. They are my " go to reels." I have kept my Steez spinning reel and gave away all of my other high end reels. My two favorites for all purpose fishing is my Revo S and MGX reels. Dependable, strong light weight and they cast a mile.
I normally catfish with heavy duty bait cast reels but was in the market for something a little easier to cast in shallow water timber areas using slip bobbers and light weights. This reel was the ticket; 1st cast into timber and reeled in an 8.3 pound channel cat. Cast and retrieve are smooth as silk and what a HOSS of a reel in a small package. 12 whisker kitty's in less than 30 minutes with smallest being 4 pounds and not one glitch out of this reel. I will be purchasing additional for my arsenal.
Got it used on a couple snapper trips works great I have to spooled with 50lbs braided got this on sale for $25 in store
I loved this reel. But the free line 20lb....was really bad. Tied a knot to hook they slipped off. Every time. A friend of mine was also stymied by this. No knot would hold. I'll get the line refilled with another brand. I am a novice fisher but the other guy wasn't...he said it was a very nice reel. I liked the free spool.
Casts light lures very well which is a quality that's hard to find. Superb ergonomics and cast quality. Magnetic brakes are nice and strong and have a very linear adjustable range from weakest to strongest. May be the best sub $100 BC reel out there.
I bought this reel two months ago very smooth reel great drag well worth the money reel with the same features sell for $200- $300
Smooth, Strong, and good looking. For only $99 this was a great buy.
I have used h2o mettle reels for years so this was not hard to go out on a limb to try. I build custom rods and am adamant about pushing for h2o reels
My wife bought me this for my birthday. I am very pleased. Smooth drag and smooth reel
I own several of these reels. Very smooth action and very dependable. They are better than other much more expensive reels that I have owned.
The name says it all lighter faster stronger......
Had it for 2 years teamed up with a vengeance rod. Can't even begin to say how many fish I have caught with it! Good price good quality! Can't get much better than that
I had tried several budget baitcaster reels from other company's and could not learn to use them. Continuously frustrated with backlashes, I sold the ones I had and swore to never use them again. After being urged by a friend to just try a few casts with his upper end baitcaster, I decided to give it another try. Still looking for a budget baitcaster, I went with the Abu Garcia Pro Max. WOW!!!! I have to admit I will never leave the baitcaster again. These reels are amazingly smooth and easy to ... cast with light or heavy baits. I have since bought two more and couldn't be happier!!
i bought this reel to do some snapper and troll fishing out in the gulf it did great for both the jacks didnt stand a chance
Works great! Performs flawlessly. Works perfect with braided line.
I've been fishing Daiwa since the TD-X came out in the mid 2000's and I felt it was time to update my reels and after doing some intensive research I bought two Tatula HS, one Tatula CT, and a JDM RYOGA. The RYOGA is a $500 reel, but I feel that the Tatula is just as smooth and of the highest quality. You will never regret the purphase.
This reel is awesome the smoothest reel I have ever owned, casting is great even with 40lb test braid. The drag system is very good just the power and smoothness alone is worth buying it. Feels good in the hand due to the low profile and the first time out with it put a 5&6 lb bass in the boat plus a state record bowfin 17lb 36in. in the boat. This reel handled it no problem for the price excellent choice thanks daiwa and academy sports.
Bought this reel for my son-in-law for Christmas When I went to my local store in Foley Al. they were sold out. Bought it on line, free shipping, and great price!!!!!
great ergonomics, and smooth as silk when reeling.
I have had reels in the same price category from several other companies in the industry. This blows the competition out of the water! Performs just as well as the $200+ reels that I own!
I have three of these reels now, they are the smoothest reels I have ever used, great castability and distance.
Bought two of these reels for Christmas to myself. I own three already. Great reel for the price.
