    I really like this kayak!
I kayak in the New River. I have used different types and sizes of kayaks. I really like this kayak although it is not the perfect fit for me. I love the length for the river because it is best for tighter spaces. I'm 5'4" and 150 lbs. and it is very roomy for me but I wish I didn't sit so deep in the kayak because it makes it a little harder to paddle. It seems to travel well and I didn't flip over which is always a plus.

    Excellent boat
We bought this for our son's 14th birthday. He loves it. We've taken it on a 5 mile river trip (low water), a 15 mile river trip (beautiful water level, nice flow) and just returned from a 50 mile, 3 day trip. Absolutely incredible boat. Other boaters even commented that he didn't have to work, he could paddle a couple strokes and rest. The boat tracks nicely, stays straight and glides through the water. Our younger son has a Pelican Pursuit 100, which we wouldn't recommend and will be selling ... read more to replace with another Vapor.

No regrets! I went back and purchased a second on
I experimented with a friends expensive kayak before making my purchase. The friends kayak was so heavy, I could barely maneuver it in and out of water, car, etc. Consequently, selected this particular kayak because it was light weight and had good reviews. It is so lightweight I can lift it by myself on top of the car (I am a 115 pound woman). I was concerned it would not be stable, but it is very stable. When you sit in the kayak, your body weight weighs the boat down very nicely. Everyone who ... read more uses my kayak wants to buy one. This buyer has no regrets.

    Excellent kayak!
I purchased this kayak as my first kayak. I am 5'10" and 140 lbs. the kayak handles very well. It goes straight with little effort and has great stability. It's quite comfortable and the features are a lot better than other kayaks around this price range. Overall it is a wonderful kayak. I am very pleased with everything and the price is very cheap for a kayak as nice as this one.

    Fun Kayak
I purchased this Kayak almost two years ago. Have been out in it many times and love it. I had a sit in Kayak first then decided to go with the sit on style. I like being able to get to all my gear and I stay cooler with the sit on. Just be sure to wear sunscreen or buy lightweight pants to keep from burning. Can't beat it for the quality and low price.

    Good boat
I have owned this boat for two months and it is great. It handles well on the water. It is faster than I expected. Get a pad to sit on or your butt will hurt after a couple hours. It is light and easy to load. It is ready to fish as is with great storage. I really like this kayak.

    fast, funn, and effective
I bought this yak almost a year ago. together the two of us have been on amazing fishing trips.. and some of the worst. However one thing stayed true, its performance. no matter how choppy the water or how long of a paddle it cut through the water with ease and with superior stabibility. I have tested it for hunting firing many different rounds while afloat and with each shotgun blast only a small jolt through the boat. I fired bird shot, duck, and 1 oz slugs and all of which the kayak handled ... read more perfectly! must have for any outdoorsman

Don't hesitate to buy this GREAT kayak!!
My review title really says it all. Don't hesitate to buy this great kayak and an incredible price. It's well worth the $349 Academy is asking for it. We bought two of these kayaks for lake touring and I was blown away when we got them on the water. SUPER SUPER stable (probably the most stable kayak I've ever paddled), fairly quick and they track well. A little about me: I've owned the more expensive, big brand name kayaks and this one easily competes with the $500-$600 kayaks out there. After ... read more some research, I found out that this kayak is made specifically for Academy Sports in Canada by one of the big name companies :) There's really good storage in the stern hatch -- enough for day touring, or even ultra-light camping. The weight of the kayak is spot on for what it is. It can easily be lifted atop a car or carried to the shoreline. Buy this kayak with confidence. You will not be disappointed.

    Nice Fishing Kayak
Got this as a birthday gift from my wife. I had a Heritage kayak years ago but had to get rid of it due to downsizing because of a living situation. I guess she got tried of hearing about my regret of selling it. The kayak is awesome. Tracks great and very sturdy on the water. The only thing I had to get was a new seat because the one it comes with is rough. You can't go wrong with the Heritage angler 12.

Overall... great Boat for the money!
I bought this boat over a year ago. The only issue to be found is it needs a more comfortable seat but there are all kinds available to fit on the net. I am 5'10 ad weigh 220 lbs. and it has taken me on many lakes and bays already. For the price and the quality its a great buy!

    An excellent kayak.
I have two kayaks - a Pelican Icon 120 and a Pelican Castaway 116.  I have used both several times now.  There are some clear advantages to the Icon.  It is a larger and more stable kayak, which makes it better for fishing and for someone who isn't comfortable on a boat that rocks more.  The Icon also tracks well.  The only downside, compared to the Castaway, is that it isn't as maneuverable (which is a trade off with good tracking).  I can carry both in my Ranger pickup, and both are light ... read more enough that I can load them by myself.  For fishing and for lake use, I definitely recommend the Icon 120!

    Better than expected
I bought this kayak from the store in the Houston area. I've taken it out a few times and I would buy this again. I have a limited experience with kayaks, but I've been fishing for decades. I really like this yak. I had no problems with stability or tracking. I may add a rudder in the future, but it's nothing I feel just has to be done now. I mostly fish inshore for redfish but have taken it on two different lakes. For lakes, it works great. The only negative at this point is that I will be ... read more looking into upgrading the seat. I'm 5'10" and only weigh 160 so I need some extra padding for the bottom. Overall, I'm happy with the price and I chose this yak over the Pescador because of the extra rod holders, the front storage compartment and it was $100 less. Which allowed me to buy a better paddle.

Good kayak for a person on a budget.
I have bought two kayaks in the last 6 months - a Pelican Castaway 116 and a Pelican Icon 120.  I thoroughly enjoy both.  I bought the Castaway first when I caught it on sale.  This is a good all around kayak for what I want to do, which is paddle for exercise and fun and also to fish.  It is light and easy to load on my truck by myself.   Compared to the Icon, the Castaway is faster and more maneuverable, while the Icon tracks better and is more stable.  I have no problems keeping the Castaway ... read more on a line as long as I am paddling, but as soon as I quit paddling it drifts off to one side or the other.  When I run a river, I prefer the Castaway; while I prefer the Icon for lakes and fishing.  But both are acceptable for either situation, it is just that each is slightly better for a particular use.

very stable, even for a top heavy guy
I own 3 of these and a more eskimo type kayak, these outperform the other 5 to 1. I am about 240 lbs and stability is not an issue as with the sit inside eskimo style.

    Bigger is better.
I am 6'0" 220lbs. I just recently upgraded from the Pelican 11'6". Although nice it did not meet my expectations. It was not built for a man my size. I sold it and bought the Heritage 14' Angler. I'm not a rich man by far so the price fit my budget. It is faster and more stable than my last kayak also. Standing inside this kayak is possible as well. I love my new kayak and I am going to upgrade my wife into one as well. She loves her Heritage 10' Angler but is jealous of the speed that my kayak ... read more provides me. She paddles 10 times to my 3 stokes. I don't need a fancy name brand such as ocean kayak. The Heritage 14' Angler provides me with everything I need at an affordable price.

Great price for all purpose kayak
My husband and I did some serious comparison of kayaks and retail stores and we were really impressed with two things: 1) Academy's great customer service in helping us select the right kayaks and get them delivered to the store for us, and 2) This product as far as quality, features, price and stability. These were our first kayaks and we wanted something that would work in rivers and lakes, as well as at the Texas Coast for fishing. We liked this kayak so much that we each bought one. Academy ... read more jumped to work to get them shipped to our local store from two other locations. So I'm 52, a women and about 5 foot 3 inches tall and my hubby is 60 and is 6 foot 1 inches tall. This kayak is actually perfect for both of us. Super stable and easy to get in and out of--even in deep water. the various features for fishing and securing gear are great. Everything from the cord to secure our ice chests in the back to the console in the middle for mounting fishing pole holders or holding a soda. Great arrangement for clipping your paddle in. Seat is wicked comfortable. I also love the adjustable foot rests. I definitely recommend this product and this store.

    Great fishing kayak!
This is my third old town product to purchase. I love the quality. It is a fast and stable kayak. Great for the waterways of central alabama.

Quality boat for a low price
I was given one of these as a gift from my father and I loved using it on the water. It is light weight and tracks well in the water. It is very roomy and comfortable. It's also nice and wide so it is very stable in both lakes and rivers. I would choose this boat over a pelican boat of equal price any day because it's better made and more durable.

Great kayak same kayak as liquid logic mist 9.5
I have the liquid logic mist 9.5 and paid more for it and it didn't come with the rod holders! But it is a great kayak, I have taken it from rivers to lakes to off shore in the gulf and it has preformed great. I would recommend either of these version.

    Excellent for the price!
I've owned this kayak for roughly one year and I have many great things to say about it and very little complaints. First off great kayak very fast and stable due to the length and width. Next I enjoy all the storage area although the front hatch opening is a little small but can easily be enlarged with the Heritage Redfish 12 hatch which is what I did. Finally it comes with everything you need to go out immediately and have a great experience! The only complaints I have about this kayak plain ... read more and simple are the weight and placement of the handles which makes it super awkward to carry but I would still 100% recommend this kayak to anyone!

    My first kayak.
This is the first kayak I've purchased, and don't have a lot of experience with them, so this is a noob's review. I was very surprised at the ease of travel for the size, I was thinking it would take a lot more effort to propel it but it's very responsive. Coasting though, it does like to veer off course and wind does move it around quite a bit. It is very stable and offers a great platform for fishing. It has mounting screws for a rudder so that will be an up grade needed before going offshore. ... read more All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and think this kayak will provide years of fun.

    Best kayak for the price.
Its a basic design kayak with plenty of options on the market to customize. I use it in choppy salt water as well as calm fresh water. Have own it for two years now and have well over 400 miles on it. It has its bumps and scraps because Im not gentle on it. Still has many years of adventure in her yet to come. Im 6'0" 240lbs and fell secure in this kayak. I stand and fish from her as well. No joke I recommend this kayak to all that want a kayak that will perform and last. Plenty of space for ... read more gear to last you on a long 100 mile kayak trip.

    Nice little 'yak!
I'm 5'9" and about 230#. Bought this 'yak to go fishin' on the lakes and rivers around San Antonio and I love it. Easy to accessorize, easy to paddle, very maneuverable, plenty of storage space for fishing gear, and comes with a few essentials right out of the box (2 flush mount rod holders, and 1 Scotty rod holder, gear bungees on back cargo area, and paddle clip on the side). I'm planning on buying one for my wife as soon as I can save up the cash so we can paddle/fish together. I will be ... read more buying an aftermarket seat system however. The molded plastic is OK but if you plan on staying out all day your butt and back may get a bit sore and wet. With no scupper holes in the seating area water tends to pool up a bit where your behind is planted and the backrest is a bit short for good all day support. All in all I'm very happy and impressed with this boat and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

    Great little kayak
I've had mine for a couple of years now, I use it at least a couple of times a week in the Guadalupe and I've fished Calaveras lake a few times. It is easy to transport and it handles well. I've pulled in a lot of fish and I always feel "stable". I imagine a longer kayak might track better on a lake, but for the guad, this is perfect. The only thing I added was a seat cushion from ACK and a DIY anchor trolley for the lake.

    Good quality!
I bought this yak to fish in and around a marina and shallow coves here in North Texas where we have a boat and slip. Carries plenty of gear with dry storage up front. Came with a removable center console and a dry box along with a Scotty rod holder that fits nicely into the console. Two additional flush mount rod holders behind the seat. Very stable boat for a 6'3" 225 pound guy. Tracks very well and good maneuverability around the marina. Great buy at $499. The staff at our new Academy were ... read more very helpful and polite.

It is an great reliable kayak. Also, super stable!
I purchased my Emotion Mojo Angler about one year ago and it has taken me from fresh water, to the bay, all the way out into the open ocean !! I love the stability on this kayak, on a calm day I can even stand up with confidence. I have even taken my little brother with me, both on the kayak, with no problems! This kayak is great for a serious fisherman on a budget. It is also very hydrodynamic, I have been able to keep up with kayaks that have the mirage drive easily, it is fast. the kayak also ... read more comes with a center counsel that you can remove if you like, and a cool dry box to store lures, keys, etc. I have no regrets at all with this kayak.. Great product highly recommended!
