    Get What You Pay For
Most uncomfortable kayak I have ever been in! The seat or back rest doesn't do a thing. You can't reach the rod holder an the storage is worthless. Also it doesn't track good at all. Not sure how most of the reviews are good. Not planning on using it a whole lot that's why I bought a cheap one, but I will be returning it an getting a different one. Would not recommend this kayak to anyone, spend the extra money a get a nice one

    Good boat
I have owned this boat for two months and it is great. It handles well on the water. It is faster than I expected. Get a pad to sit on or your butt will hurt after a couple hours. It is light and easy to load. It is ready to fish as is with great storage. I really like this kayak.

    My first kayak.
This is the first kayak I've purchased, and don't have a lot of experience with them, so this is a noob's review. I was very surprised at the ease of travel for the size, I was thinking it would take a lot more effort to propel it but it's very responsive. Coasting though, it does like to veer off course and wind does move it around quite a bit. It is very stable and offers a great platform for fishing. It has mounting screws for a rudder so that will be an up grade needed before going offshore. ... read more All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and think this kayak will provide years of fun.

Two screws from a five star purchase
I wanted a Perception Sport Pescador, but was told by a salesman, not the manager, that it was no longer available. Being a 220 pounder, the Redfish 12 was a good second choice for the money. While not a Pescador, the Redfish is a good kakak, issues with weight and design put aside. I would have given it a four or five star rating had Heritage taken the time to do a few little things to round out this purchase. One main issue I had was with the ajustable foot braces. I have to add a screw to the ... read more middle of the track to keep the track from bowing. Sounds easier than it was to install. I felt I was treated very good by Academy personal while making the transaction.

Great price for all purpose kayak
My husband and I did some serious comparison of kayaks and retail stores and we were really impressed with two things: 1) Academy's great customer service in helping us select the right kayaks and get them delivered to the store for us, and 2) This product as far as quality, features, price and stability. These were our first kayaks and we wanted something that would work in rivers and lakes, as well as at the Texas Coast for fishing. We liked this kayak so much that we each bought one. Academy ... read more jumped to work to get them shipped to our local store from two other locations. So I'm 52, a women and about 5 foot 3 inches tall and my hubby is 60 and is 6 foot 1 inches tall. This kayak is actually perfect for both of us. Super stable and easy to get in and out of--even in deep water. the various features for fishing and securing gear are great. Everything from the cord to secure our ice chests in the back to the console in the middle for mounting fishing pole holders or holding a soda. Great arrangement for clipping your paddle in. Seat is wicked comfortable. I also love the adjustable foot rests. I definitely recommend this product and this store.

Great for all types of fishing
I have had 2. Rig it out with anchor trolley and a rudder, put some bungees on the front and your ready. I'm 6'2" 250 pounds and I have never had a problem with this yak. I turn sideways and dangle my feet in the water without any problem. Caught many fish and plan on taking it out again soon..

    Great Kayak.
I bought 2 of these Kayaks last year, one for my wife and one for me. We love them. Easy to load for travel, easy to launch, great handling and stability, super to fish from. Thanks Academy.....BTW I am almost 69 years old (Never too old to try something new).

    Best Bang for your Buck!
I have owned this kayak now for about 7 months. It has done everything I've asked it to. The yak cuts through the water really well, and goes through shallows even better. It has plenty of storage and seems very steady on the water. You will not be disappointed. A+

    Excellent lightweight rec. kayak
Very stable, roomy, comfortable, nimble, good tracking. We've had a lot of 10' yaks and the Featherlite and Swifty are the best designed/well made of the affordable entry level boats. We use in lakes and rivers (up to class 2) with the Featherlite 9.5 my favorite

Great kayak same kayak as liquid logic mist 9.5
I have the liquid logic mist 9.5 and paid more for it and it didn't come with the rod holders! But it is a great kayak, I have taken it from rivers to lakes to off shore in the gulf and it has preformed great. I would recommend either of these version.

    Sits too low
This was my first yak and I learned after buying another type that it sits way too low in the water. And watch out in rapids it will throw you off. Better for people less than 160 pounds.

    Great kayak for the price.
We just bought our first kayaks about a month ago and we love them and use them regularly! I am 5'6" and my husband is 6' and the fit is great since they had adjustable foot holders for the varying heights.

    Excellent kayak!
I purchased this kayak as my first kayak. I am 5'10" and 140 lbs. the kayak handles very well. It goes straight with little effort and has great stability. It's quite comfortable and the features are a lot better than other kayaks around this price range. Overall it is a wonderful kayak. I am very pleased with everything and the price is very cheap for a kayak as nice as this one.

    Great quality
I purchased the 12' instead of 10' because I am overweight and this boat does incredibly well even with all the gear i bring with me. It is top quality compared to others around its price range and stands out as a great buy. This boat is super fast - i was really impressed with that. The seat is more comfortable than it looks and i dont have any problems when i go out for an hour or two. The only thing i don't like about the boat is the drain plug...its in the wrong place and generally a pain. I ... read more have a regular pick up and I just throw it in the back without problems. I am very happy with the boat and would buy again. As a side note Academy had the best price.

    Great Kayak
Bought this last spring and fished in it 2-3 times a week, best money I ever spent! Great quality, super comfortable, and surprisingly lightweight. Old town's quality and warranty is 2nd to none.

very stable, even for a top heavy guy
I own 3 of these and a more eskimo type kayak, these outperform the other 5 to 1. I am about 240 lbs and stability is not an issue as with the sit inside eskimo style.

Good kayak for a person on a budget.
I have bought two kayaks in the last 6 months - a Pelican Castaway 116 and a Pelican Icon 120.  I thoroughly enjoy both.  I bought the Castaway first when I caught it on sale.  This is a good all around kayak for what I want to do, which is paddle for exercise and fun and also to fish.  It is light and easy to load on my truck by myself.   Compared to the Icon, the Castaway is faster and more maneuverable, while the Icon tracks better and is more stable.  I have no problems keeping the Castaway ... read more on a line as long as I am paddling, but as soon as I quit paddling it drifts off to one side or the other.  When I run a river, I prefer the Castaway; while I prefer the Icon for lakes and fishing.  But both are acceptable for either situation, it is just that each is slightly better for a particular use.

Sit-On-Top Kayaks

Immerse yourself in the fresh air with sit-on-top kayaks that let you sit on top of the kayak rather than in a cockpit. Paddle keepers, rod holders and swivel rod holders make sit-on-top designs ideal for fishing kayaks, and padded seats allow you to lean back comfortably as you cast out your line and wait for a big catch. Fishing kayaks offer durability and storage space for all your gear.

Inflatable Designs

For quick excursions on the lake or for fun out at camp, inflatable kayaks offer a viable option. The lightweight design of inflatable kayaks makes them ideal for moving between locations or for tucking away on the go. Units with hand pumps make inflation and deflation simple. Even though they are lightweight, inflatable kayaks come equipped with helpful features, such as cargo nets for keeping accessories in place, deep cockpits for added stability, polyester deck covers to protect against UV rays and grab lines that let you pull the unit easily out of the water after your adventure.
