Many folks will tell you that you need expensive hollow point loads to provide enough "stopping power" and "consistency" for self defense. Expansion of the temporary cavity only matters with 2000 FPS+ in this caliber. Penetration is what stops a threat. A short range firearm needs nothing more than a good quality cartridge and a trained operator. Don't get caught up in the way companies market their products. No need to spend $30 a box for a slightly more "consistent", "premium" product. Highl ... y recommend this cartridge, if it's too dirty for you, then just clean your gun as you should be doing anyway.
I bought this awhile back because my sig p320 loves this stuff. Works with no malfunctions.
I have used this ammunition since the 90s where it was the issue ammunition of the Police Dept I worked for. It is great ammo, very reliable but the Federal HST is a newer more impressive round but with either I would feel very comfortable using it in a self defense situation.
I have my own range on the property. I shoot at steel targets. The frame is 2in tube steel with the same hinges found on semi trailer doors. The first impact swung the target all the way around and bent the hinge. This was out 20 yards with my trusty old S&W 4506. I never experianced a single malfunction of any kind. Very accurate and yes the recoil is less with the 165 grainer than the 230. Well worth a couple more $$
I have searched for a long time for 45acp ammo that burns clean and decided to give this ammo a try. After that I have not looked back and compare all others to this stuff. I can shoot 30-40 rounds of this ammo and not get the gun as dirty as 5 rounds of other brands. This has been accurate in all of my 45's. It is priced higher than other brands but is well worth it.
This is my choice for winter because of its ability to penetrate heavy clothing, then expand. In summer, when clothing is lighter, I chose a simpler JHP. I even had the fixed sights on my Kimber replaced so Hydra-Shoks shoot to point of aim at 25 yards for me.
This ammo runs great in my g42. Very high quality. I like this and federal hydro shocks.
I usually use Different brand for SD rounds. Bought this because the price was good. Shot a box, one clip slowly and then the remainder of the box as fast as I could pull the trigger. No problems.
Feed and function through Glock 20 and Glock 40 was perfect. Seems to be very consistent. Not the cheapest but high quality.
Great ammo im amazed that it is a full norma specification load at a good price. Im extremely happy that academy carries this ammo! Shot well and had no ftf or fte. Plain and simple great ammo!
Bought a box of these yesterday when I bought a new pistol, ( Canik TP9sa ). Liked the looks of the projectile and the weight (147gr). I noticed that the recoil was a bit less than 115 gr range ammo I normally use which helps with rapid follow-up shots. I had no issues with f.t.f or f.t.e. Ammo was consistent with 1.5" - 2.5" groups at 7 yards. Seeing as the projectile portion of the ammo is 147gr and flat nosed, I think it would make good personal defense rounds at half the cost of hollow ... points. Going to go buy a few more boxes asap.
I shoot some rounds of this 9MM 147 grain ammo every time that I go to the range so that I have some practice with cartridges that are the same weight as the personal defense ammo that I usually carry. It is well-manufactured and has been reliable with no failures to fire and no misfeeds. The price is reasonable.
This was an online order through Acadmey, ammo was here in justhe a couple days. Price very reasonable. This Hornady ammo has been 100% reliable for me.
I love the 44spl. Bulldog! Great stopping power, and very manageable recoil, for most folks. Perfect load for defense personal or home.
Haven't Shot any yet , But they look like good ammo and should shoot fine
Is hard to find 38 super any where especially for home defense
Purchased and fired in both a .38+P revolver and a .357 mag revolver and shot very well in both. It's a round that could be carried with great confidence as PD for your CC or your home protection handgun, either .38 or .357.
I bought this strictly for personal defense. Great accuracy, hard hitting ammo. I would recommend this ammo for personal defense in your CCW weapon.
I bought this ammo to shoot in my 1938 Colt New Service Target. I didn't have any issues with the ammo and would buy it again.
I have not actually fired any of this ammo; but they sure look important.
Very accurate and clean burning will buy more price not bad either for the quality.
Bought them online they shot great good recoil characteristics.
Ive been using Blazer in all my handguns and never once was there a jam or misfire. I just don't understand why I would spend more for other ammo if this fulfills my needs 100% of the time
I have never had a problem ordering, receiving or shooting ammo I've gotten from academy.
I bought this .44 mag ammo based on past positive experience with Buffalo Bore ammo. Again, they did not disappoint. This round is well designed with a 180 grain medium cast lead hollow point for rapid mushrooming at a higher velocity. This "lower weight" bullet also mitigates recoil and allows for faster follow-up shots. It is the perfect balance of speed, mass and expansion. Buffalo Bore definitely did their homework when they thought out this loading.
I use S&B 45 acp and 9mm for practice and plinking. After 300 rounds I have had no issues at all. It is clean burning and accurate, feeds great in all of my Sig Sauer guns.
Shoots good with reasonable recoil. Should be good hog ammo.
Bought an item about a month ago great price , excellent ammo .
