Many folks will tell you that you need expensive hollow point loads to provide enough "stopping power" and "consistency" for self defense. Expansion of the temporary cavity only matters with 2000 FPS+ in this caliber. Penetration is what stops a threat. A short range firearm needs nothing more than a good quality cartridge and a trained operator. Don't get caught up in the way companies market their products. No need to spend $30 a box for a slightly more "consistent", "premium" product. Highl ... y recommend this cartridge, if it's too dirty for you, then just clean your gun as you should be doing anyway.
Goes pew pew when you pull the trigger. Just what I need. Much cleaner than the Federal "red box" brass case. And glad that someone makes a good, cheaper 124gr practice load. Wish it was sold in store though but with free shipping if you order enough, it all works out
I have searched for a long time for 45acp ammo that burns clean and decided to give this ammo a try. After that I have not looked back and compare all others to this stuff. I can shoot 30-40 rounds of this ammo and not get the gun as dirty as 5 rounds of other brands. This has been accurate in all of my 45's. It is priced higher than other brands but is well worth it.
I know there are some out there that says this round is obsolete, over rated or that it doesn't even work as advertised. Well I am here to tell you that I have used this particular ammunition since the early 1990's as a law enforcement officer as well as my brother officers and it has ALWAYS preformed flawlessly in anything it's been used in and as directed. If we didn't believe in it.... Believe me when I say, we'd not trust our lives to it daily! In fact I recently used it to shoot a coyote ... out of my Hk USP and WOW! is all I can say.
This ammo runs great in my g42. Very high quality. I like this and federal hydro shocks.
Shot well, not much different form target ammo. No jams.
Bought a box of these yesterday when I bought a new pistol, ( Canik TP9sa ). Liked the looks of the projectile and the weight (147gr). I noticed that the recoil was a bit less than 115 gr range ammo I normally use which helps with rapid follow-up shots. I had no issues with f.t.f or f.t.e. Ammo was consistent with 1.5" - 2.5" groups at 7 yards. Seeing as the projectile portion of the ammo is 147gr and flat nosed, I think it would make good personal defense rounds at half the cost of hollow ... points. Going to go buy a few more boxes asap.
Recently, I was able to try out the Browning 147 grain ammo at the range with my Glock 17. Over the holiday, I upgraded several components of my Glock (heavier trigger spring/lighter striker with a mid weight spring/Titanium plunger, etc.), and was interested to try the Browning 147 grain ammo. The ammo was clean, accurate and reliable. No loading/ejection issues. Now that my trial was successful at the range, I highly recommend this ammo for defense use.
I put 13 rounds of American Gunner through my XD, and then put 13 rounds of Monarch HP through it. I was surprised how accurate I was shooting with the American Gunner compared to the Monarch. (I impressed myself.) Got this on sale for 14.99 for 20 rounds. I am a cheapo, but will definately keep this loaded in my pistol for self defense due to the great accuracy I had with it.
I have 3 Shields in 9mm, 40, and 45. I use Hornaday American Gunner, and Critical Defense in all of them. Very accurate ammo, and is very clean.....
I own a couple of G-42's and have put in excess of 3,000 rounds through them with less than 100 grain ammunition from various manufacturers. I did experience some failure to feed which I thought was my grip. In actuality, I found that it was due to the lower grain level and not my hand hold on the 42. It was recommended to me to switch to 100 grain. I am glad I did. Absolutely no failure to feed and clean.
Excellent product for the money. Works very well in my Ruger .380.
Good quality American ammo at a good price and shipping is very fast.
I am happy to have purchased this ammonition, it performs very well
Shoots good with reasonable recoil. Should be good hog ammo.
I shot a nice 8 point buck with this product and was totally pleased with it's performance.
I purchased ammunition online and it was one of the easiest simplest transactions that I have completed! I received free shipping which is super savings, I will make more purchases in this fashion.
Service was great as promised and on time. Was very happy to receive a quality product.

Never had gotten any Buffalo Bore oreviously but got a good deal on it. Pricey but certainly has the velicity & punch of my favorite premium ammo. I would buy it again if I needed to.
Not cheap but shoots great. Packaging is big for a small amount of ammo but that's the best gripe I have.
This pistol was passed on to me from my father and finding ammunition for it has been difficult. Academy was one of the very few places that carry it and also provided free shipping. Win/win!
Good quality ammunition, fair price and always great service from Academy.
nice ammo, sweet price. shoots well will buy it again
I think this product is the top of the line. I'm very impressed with the recoil, velocity, grain and the stopping power. These thing's are very important to me. Good stuff outstanding!
Speer Gold Dots come highly rated for self defense, but can sometimes be hard to find. I was glad to find the Short Barrel version. I've had no problems with them in practice, but thankfully have never had to use them for their specific purpose of self defense.
Great ammo cant go wrong with this purchase and its good for self defense
Product: Bought this ammo for my 1921 Luger. 100 rounds down range, a few misfeeds that I attribute to the reproduction magazine. Otherwise, great ammo. Shipping: Remarkably fast, though the email tracking notification occurred roughly 2 weeks late. Strange....
