I have used this ammunition since the 90s where it was the issue ammunition of the Police Dept I worked for. It is great ammo, very reliable but the Federal HST is a newer more impressive round but with either I would feel very comfortable using it in a self defense situation.
I have my own range on the property. I shoot at steel targets. The frame is 2in tube steel with the same hinges found on semi trailer doors. The first impact swung the target all the way around and bent the hinge. This was out 20 yards with my trusty old S&W 4506. I never experianced a single malfunction of any kind. Very accurate and yes the recoil is less with the 165 grainer than the 230. Well worth a couple more $$
I know there are some out there that says this round is obsolete, over rated or that it doesn't even work as advertised. Well I am here to tell you that I have used this particular ammunition since the early 1990's as a law enforcement officer as well as my brother officers and it has ALWAYS preformed flawlessly in anything it's been used in and as directed. If we didn't believe in it.... Believe me when I say, we'd not trust our lives to it daily! In fact I recently used it to shoot a coyote ... out of my Hk USP and WOW! is all I can say.
This ammo is just what I need. Has great penetration with expansion and great ballistics. I shot two of these through an old hard drive punching through the hard drive, disks, and then some with expansion. If it will do that it will take down a bear with good placement. It also goes boom every time I pull the trigger which I cannot say about Winchester hollow points. These also have more punch. Love these. Havent found anything else that is even close.
First off, what works in my handguns might not work in yours. I went to the range with a Glock 19 and a 43. I took various ammo with me, 6 different brands all the same 115 grain. I don't want to put down any ammo but out of the 6, this Aguila worked the best for me. I'm no expert but I made consistent 2 inch groups with this ammo where as some of the others I could not make a good 4 inch group. I used all top name ammo from Academy Sports ( Best Prices ). If you have a Glock, or any name ... handgun for that matter, give Aquila ( means Eagle ) a try.
Gone through 4 boxes already and no problems at all! Would definitely recommend!
Bought a box of these yesterday when I bought a new pistol, ( Canik TP9sa ). Liked the looks of the projectile and the weight (147gr). I noticed that the recoil was a bit less than 115 gr range ammo I normally use which helps with rapid follow-up shots. I had no issues with f.t.f or f.t.e. Ammo was consistent with 1.5" - 2.5" groups at 7 yards. Seeing as the projectile portion of the ammo is 147gr and flat nosed, I think it would make good personal defense rounds at half the cost of hollow ... points. Going to go buy a few more boxes asap.
Recently, I was able to try out the Browning 147 grain ammo at the range with my Glock 17. Over the holiday, I upgraded several components of my Glock (heavier trigger spring/lighter striker with a mid weight spring/Titanium plunger, etc.), and was interested to try the Browning 147 grain ammo. The ammo was clean, accurate and reliable. No loading/ejection issues. Now that my trial was successful at the range, I highly recommend this ammo for defense use.
I put 13 rounds of American Gunner through my XD, and then put 13 rounds of Monarch HP through it. I was surprised how accurate I was shooting with the American Gunner compared to the Monarch. (I impressed myself.) Got this on sale for 14.99 for 20 rounds. I am a cheapo, but will definately keep this loaded in my pistol for self defense due to the great accuracy I had with it.
Brought this 2 weeks ago, happy with purchase....will buy again..
I own a couple of G-42's and have put in excess of 3,000 rounds through them with less than 100 grain ammunition from various manufacturers. I did experience some failure to feed which I thought was my grip. In actuality, I found that it was due to the lower grain level and not my hand hold on the 42. It was recommended to me to switch to 100 grain. I am glad I did. Absolutely no failure to feed and clean.
Excellent product for the money. Works very well in my Ruger .380.
I bought this .44 mag ammo based on past positive experience with Buffalo Bore ammo. Again, they did not disappoint. This round is well designed with a 180 grain medium cast lead hollow point for rapid mushrooming at a higher velocity. This "lower weight" bullet also mitigates recoil and allows for faster follow-up shots. It is the perfect balance of speed, mass and expansion. Buffalo Bore definitely did their homework when they thought out this loading.
Decided to try some heavier ammo for my Super Blackhawk so ordered the 300 gr. Recoil wasn't any worse than 240gr. Would make a super hog load. for sure buying more.
Hornady is just GREAT ammunition! And the free shipping is a added BONUS!!!
Happy I purchased the ammo they are hard to find at that price for so many
I wanted an that the Jackson store did not have in stock. The store crew ordered it on line at about 11:00 am and it arrived at my front door the next day at about 10:00 am.
Purchased and fired in both a .38+P revolver and a .357 mag revolver and shot very well in both. It's a round that could be carried with great confidence as PD for your CC or your home protection handgun, either .38 or .357.
I bought this strictly for personal defense. Great accuracy, hard hitting ammo. I would recommend this ammo for personal defense in your CCW weapon.
Just purchaseda week ago to shoot in my1935 beretta not one jam. Excellent and accurate. Will be buying more.
I test many kinds of ammunition out of a 3.4" 9mm, and by far this is the most impressive of them all. Sig V-Crown comes in a fairly close 2nd. Be sure to get the "micro" HST'S if your barrel length is under 4" to ensure maximum performance.
I have a Glock 19. The bullet expands as promised and as expected. to answer people's questions on barrel length, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) is the testing done for this round is done from a Glock 17. At least this is what I've found from several websites about FBI testing.
I love the 44spl. Bulldog! Great stopping power, and very manageable recoil, for most folks. Perfect load for defense personal or home.
Good quality American ammo at a good price and shipping is very fast.
Bought 4 boxes of this and it functions wonderfully in my Sar 400422 . Accuracy is good and no F.F. 's . Haven't done any function tests on the bullets yet, but from what I understand they are loaded with XTP ' S Which have a great reputation . Very pleased so far.
I received my order quicker than I thought. Thank you!!
Academy had exactly what I needed in.25 ACP. This is not a common cartridge any longer. Academy had it in stock and shipped quickly. Excellent service at a reasonable price.
Throughout my time as a deputy sheriff and detective I have fired approximately 1,500 rounds in Federal .357 SIG full metal jacket form and I have never had one issue in performance. Absolutely no failures to fire, failures to eject, failures to feed, or anything else and no issues with quality of components. During my time as a law enforcement officer I became aware of the power and performance of the .357 SIG and decided to make it my personal defense caliber. When on duty I use .40 S&W but ... .357 SIG is my choice and I do have conversion barrels for my .40 S&W pistols. My preference is to use Federal as my .357 SIG training ammunition but is its not available or affordable I use .40 S&W to train. Of course I’d much prefer the price per round to go down and be more affordable for training and testing your weapons of choice but Federal does great in providing us with good quality defense ammunition. This load fully functions and cycles in my duty issued Glock 22, my backup piece Glock 27 and also my personal Glock 23 and 35 with conversion barrels.
Product: Bought this ammo for my 1921 Luger. 100 rounds down range, a few misfeeds that I attribute to the reproduction magazine. Otherwise, great ammo. Shipping: Remarkably fast, though the email tracking notification occurred roughly 2 weeks late. Strange....
I compared this with blazer brass and Winchester 115gr. These shot smoother and flatter than the others. I use a S&W SD9VE for protection. Just wish they were a little cheaper and sold in stores.
I am very satisfied with the ammo that I bought from you. Also, I am highly satisfied with the two pistols that I have purchased from Academy.
