Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light weight reel This real is not only light weight but has a great drag. As a charter captain we use these for anything from fishing the wrecks and trolling to catching 100+lb Tarpon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Redtail Amazon Cats My Company sells fishing trips in Brazil for peacock bass and some of my clients wanted to try catching some of the big Redtail Catfish this past November. We used Penn Fathom Lever Drag with 80 lb braid and landed cats up to 80 pounds without any trouble. We are taking them to Christmas Island this April to see how they handle the wahoo and yellowfin tuna.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performance under tough conditions! I bought this reel a year ago and have been putting it to the test on 20 to 30 pound yellowtails and 10 to 20 pound leopard grouper since I bought it. I am retired and fish 3 times a week in Baja....So I have definitely "tested" this reels abilities. I must tell you that it has taken a beating and still operates like the day I bought it. I simply clean it after every use and do the normal maintenance. What a great reel for the money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the looks of this reel When looking at reels, I generally are looking for value and reliability. This reel is a great representation of both. But the look of this real is amazing, and only adds to that overall value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FTH40NLDHS Just got back from a 14 day long range trip out of San Diego where we had a pretty good wahoo bite. I ended up with 7 wahoo, 5 of which were caught on a Penn Fathom 40HS and wahoo bombs. This is the lever drag 7:1 gear ratio reel and gets 60" per crank. It can really move a bomb with the obvious trade off being cranking power. I set the drag at 24 lbs. at strike. The reel has great free spool and casts very well. After a couple of fish in a row, it takes some commitment to keep turning the handle but if you can, the speed of this reel will get it done on wahoo. Would be nice if Penn made the two speed Fathom 40N with a high gear ratio like the single speed. Something like 7:1 and 4:1 for the lower gear. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
